Thought I would throw in my experience as, so far, it has not been mentioned as a factor. My HIDs have come from Les and the first set, fitted to a K1200S, gave the occasional problem on start which I traced to the connectors that fit into the existing headlight bulb fitment. These connectors need to be really tight and mine were vibrating loose and breaking the connection. My solution was to tie string around the base of the HID wires and then tie tightly around the back of the connector block once the connector was inserted - I never had another problem until I sold the bike 5 years later. I mentioned the problem to Les and I notice that the connectors now do snap into place much better BUT I reckon they might be worth a look/clean and check if you are having problems. My second set on my GS have only been on a year but have been faultless to date. However, a friend's GS has a persistent problem which new Ballasts & bulbs has failed to resolve - I suspect that the CANBUS is not happy with the startup current anymore and is tripping - it works fine with a normal bulb.
