Well had them look at the headlight while they were fleecing me £300 for a first year/6,000 mile service and the answer was...........

They suggested I maybe touched the second bulb while fitting and that the third bulb which exploded was the wrong wattage:nenau At 8pm I had little choice but to buy an H7 bulb from a filling station.

So we'll see how long the new bulb lasts.

Its far less fiddlier just to remove the lamp itself and change the bulb, only 2 bolts.:thumb2

So I did it that way - 2 bolts easy - but how the f**k do you disconnect the the wire to the little parking lamp thingy. (1200GS 09) - :nenau

The lamp pulls out!:rob

When i changed mine to an LED bulb it was easier to have it ON to line it up with its socket in the headlamp unit. Its a bit of a tight squeeze to change it.

Its also a good way to check that the bulb is in correctly, if its in the wrong way round it wont work.

Head lights

Yes, that is taken care of in the same unit just locates on a peg in the centre of the base of the fixed headlight holder. Piece of cake very easy to do and no hassell getting it back, the pilot just pushes in a hole in the head light assembly mine always comes out when removing the assembly just pushes back in. As this assembly also includes the instruments and they can be removed after taking out the plug in lead and removing the three clip holding it in. All easy to do.
