Leaking carb

Back again lol........got a new back tyre on the bike,oil and filter change done the right way this time.

Now i got as far as the front gate before the right hand carb started leaking petrol everywhere.Took carb off and checked screws etc,put back on and it still leaks everywhere.

Seems to be coming from the bowl at the bottom that has a metal clip over itCould this be a seal or something stuck inside the carb.

Please remember i know very little about these bikes lol.

With the fuel turned off take the float bowl off (unclip the spring clip). Then turn the fuel on and let some run through, bounce the floats while it's running out. This should cure it for a while. If it keeps doing it you may need to flush the tank.

I rode the R100RT back from Germany with petrol leaking all over my left boot; not only did I smell like a petrol station forecourt, but it really pissed me off 'cos petrol was so expensive!

After bouncing the floats the carb now doesnt leak.

If you have the time and/or the iclination could you explain why doing this sorted the problem.Is it because of crap getting into the bowl from the tank or just the floats getting old and need replacing as get the impression from your post that this isnt a permanent fix.

it's small pieces of grit or the red lining from the tank that settle on the tip of the needle. Bouncing them around with the fuel turned on usually dislodges them. If it keeps happening then run the fuel down to around a gallon, take the tank off, remove the left fuel tap and drain it into a container, ideally through a funnel with filter paper (you'll be amazed at what comes out). Refit the tap and pour the filtered fuel back in.
