Legality of HID conversions?

Ok so here is a starter for 10 - Mitsubishi Evolution 8 - UK car (MR series) 2001 to 2005 - HID lamps no washers and certainly no self leveling suspension ......

Was never type approved for UK use with HID headlights......I used to work with a rally team in Chesterfield at this time, our local grey importer used to come to us for swapping out Evo8 HIDs with a standard pair for SVA test. Once tested and approved they would be swapped back. "Official" UK cars should only have standard halogens fitted.

On a side issue. My bike is currently with Oceon BMW. I asked them again about HIDs and got the same answer - don't fit them as you could have problems with your electrics afterwards and would cancel any warranty claim is an electrical problem was as a result of the HIDs. Anyone had any issues with electrics since fitting HIDs?

Typical dealer talking bollocks if you ask me . The problems with the electrics hinge around the 'computer' thinking the bulb's blown (LAMPF) 'cos not enough current is being drawn.

Contact Les Wassall on here for a decent kit that works (IME). Or chance your arm on e-bay. YMMV.

If you do have a problem, just put a normal halogen bulb back in - it's a 1 minute job - and take it back, saying you've a problem.

c standard lights are a disgrace
d hids are really visible during day time
e seen enough dead people in road (not seen apparently)
f safety issue imho . very much outweighs any potential legal issue.
g no contest get them, n fit them
h dont worry about it just blame les

Are Les's HIDs easy to fit? I would probably go for 4x 50w HID kits to replace all bulbs. Had a look at his instructions online but would prefer some pics to visualise what is said.

if you are at all handy it is (as we wid say in jock land) a nae bother job n les is an easy guy to talk with

My bikes from oceans ,have shown bill the hids on mine and he said they dont fit them ,that was it les will sell you the plug n play system everything is done for you , the amount of comments from cars and other bikers actually asking where I got them is all a bonus

I met Les at the weekend, nice fella, plenty of tips for fitting. picked up a set Hids + standard DE lights with stainless brackets. Only problem is I have to wait until after the turkey to fit them

I told mine I had enhanced lighting for safety reasons - no extra cost.

lexus had the same with the is300, until one of the internet forum owners clubs kindly pointed it out to the head office, shortly after owners were requested to contact the dealer.

if its a UK car then it must have the washers and self leveling device fitted - end of.

The same question can of course be asked about LED rear lamps / stop lamps ..... see what the TM says about these......i will save you the ball ache ... sweet FA

So to achieve MVA the bike would have been examined in very close detail, all aspects & E11 stamps etc. so these lamps must be O.K. I recently know of a guy with a Breve 1100 who's bike failed annual test with 6 diodes out

If there's nothing in the TM how should this have failed.... he is currently appealing against the failure..

This is a big maybe but it could come under the if its fitted it must work. You could take an LED to be a bulb and if that bulb doesn't work then its a fail. If a light is wired to come on with another light, say a spot light on high beam and it doesn't work then its a fail as an example. Like I said its a big maybe but it wouldn't surprise me
