Sorry to ask this but I'm new to MS, the question is this, if I plan the route starting with a way point and finishing with a way point then construct the route, can I alter the start point without losing the route planned, It's just I planned a trip around France and have changed my mind on the start position

Yes. Just add the new waypoint, re-sequence the order of the waypoints so the new one is at the top of the list, click recalculate route. Simples.

Okay....I've added the new way point, and it's put it in the middle of the list to the left, how do i re-sequence in the order i need. Sorry for being so thick

Select arrow tool.

Click on the route to open the dialogue box showing the waypoints.

Click on the waypoint you want to move.

You should then see some yellow arrows on the left.

Clich on the direction arrow to move the selected waypoint in the direction you want to move it.

Job done.

not sure about mapsource, but in basecamp, you can just drag the waypoint on the map.

Same in Mapsource, (but just drag the route to where you want to go...) the best way to alter a route... all that fecking about with waypoints..:D

Zoom is your friend

Fine as long as you zoom in close enough to be certain going where you intended. But then that is the same with waypoints anyway. Did it myself when I got my first Garmin (2003) Very easy to pick the wrong carriageway on motorways etc, or the centre of towns. Either way the device will do exactly as you have asked, routing you back up the motorway or into the town centre and out again. Zoom in and check or you will end up ranting at the Garmin -poor thing was just obeying orders!

Found that out (the hard way) long ago.....:blast

Quite good with Mapsource now, (after four years!)....:D
