Read this if you can it really gives the best description of the two bikes on a real world test and backs up what I have always said about the gs 1250 , both great bikes but ...

The day I have to use MCN to back up my POV will be the day my self belief and dignity has shrivelled up and died in a neglected, unloved corner somewhere...... :D

Both great bikes but you can carry on riding the 1290 whilst your mates 1250 is having the latest recall done .....:-)

Well, do not despair my friend.
Some day, even KTM will step up and offer improvements to the bikes at no cost.

Your assimilation into blinkerdom is complete. So you don’t mind having your bike off the road to have something put right that BMW should have done so before releasing the bike for sale ?

Your so right as always master , another one who I though I was on the ignore list

My vicarious experience of KTM ownership suggests they also use customers as beta testers. A mate seems to be riding courtesy bikes frequently, especially in the first few months of ownership of the 3 new 1290 bikes he has owned in the last 4 years. His dealer seems to take a long time to elicit a fix, especially where the electronics are concerned.

You keep beating that drum and drinking the orangeade though, if it keeps you happy. Perhaps you should get a bowler hat?

Nope...
Alle bikes have flaws. The difference is that BMW admits it, and takes action accordingly. I may fill this page up with examples of owners of other brands experiencing the opposite, but that is not relevant to this thread...

Chain maintenance is enough to put me right off. That and the fact that every KTM I looked at secondhand was covered in rusty bits. Even the demonstrator had rusty bits.
Although I did own a 701SM year before last and I managed to keep that looking like new, but, then it was chain maintenance again.
The ones I've ridden, although not a 1290, just seem a bit, agricultural.

Would that be why they continue to build new models (1250) with inherited faults from previous models ?

Just in the last 2 days there’s at least one thread with 1250 owners complaining about stuck exhaust butterfly valves.

Makes a mockery of your ridiculous statement above.

I know which one suits me and which one doesn’t

That’s all that matters to me

Well Sir, I stand corrected. The internet always paints a correct and unbiased picture. :aidan
Thank you for pointing that out. If I didn't have internet I would never know that my bikes had problems... Silly me :jager

My pleasure.
Suggest you pop out now and free up that stuck butterfly valve before winter sets in up there !! ( next week ? ) :-)
