Mcn article 1250 and 1290

I wish Honda would produce a more road focus version of the Africa twin.

Quite frankly. The AT is already a road focused bike.
I have a couple of friends that bought AT, and observing their experience with the AT, you must be filthy rich or raving mad to bring the bike off-road.

Yup, agree with you for once .

Yep at making off-road bikes that need rebuilding every 500 miles.

But still along way behind in producing a GS beater :D

What would you know about "off-road" bikes apart from what you have read on here?

Both great bikes but you can carry on riding the 1290 whilst your mates 1250 is having the latest recall done .....:-)

Great but you aren’t allowed to do more that 80mph on a fully loaded KTM without risking wobbles and weaves.

So how often do KTM recommended that you service their competition bikes?

In Ktms defence their off road bikes are brilliant , my old 400 exc did 350 hrs before a piston , then at 600 hrs a full rebuild , still going strong at 680hrs.Okay rattles like a bag of spanners but hey ho .
Service every 7 to 10 hrs , oil and filters , air filter every ride out , if I could be bothered to go to the barn I would get the manual out and check on the rest . ( 250 exc 2018)

Off-road competition bikes are KTM’s forte, BMW don’t make equivalent bikes, but as far as road bikes are concerned the GS is still the ‘adventure’ bike to beat.

With that I totally agree , and for me the BM, hands down ,is the better bike and all many copy but never equal.

In the good old days in the banana republic i was born in (Greece), KTM stood for: Kathe Triti Mastora, which loosely translated meant “every Tuesday to the garage”. At the time (20 years ago) I felt it was a very accurate description of the brand, apart from that weekly repairs was usually not nearly enough. What epic dogs those bikes were.

They also say one owns a Lotus and a KTM once. Also agreed. Given my life experience, (and I am aware the bikes are probably quite good nowadays), I would not own a KTM even if you gifted me one, let alone buy and suffer the globally pathetic dealer network (although in Blighty I understand from others it is ok).

But given that billionaire Stefan Quant who has a 29% stake in BMW also has a large share in Bauer Consumer Media , the publishers of MCN, is it any wonder that their reviews are always a tad slanted ?

He must go into the editing meetings every week , which I very much doubt , he is a very successful investor / industrialist and most likely has no interest in manipulating the media as you kindly pointed out , bet he's on to his barrister now to give you a signed delivery...
His BMW shares were an inheritance from his father.
