Just read MCN and guess what? the Tiger leaps ahead!!
Didn`t see that one coming! the best quote is "the Triumph motor is stronger with more torque than the BMW" sorry but according to the specs that were printed the BMW has more torque, only a little but it`s at much lower revs but they don`t seem to have printed at what revs the power and torque are produced!
MCN did concede that the BMW is better offroad so surely it won! (love the pic of the Triumph leaping through the air while the gs rider looks on in wonder)they tested the road going Triumph against a f650 gs with less power and torque and the Triumph won on the road but when they tested against the 800gs off road they said the Triumph is better on road, having your cake and eating it methinks!
I`m a Brit and would love to buy a Brit bike but lets wait a while until the Triumph has proved itself, if it`s better I will trade in my 800gs.

Yes the BMW has had problems(well reported here) but then Triumph have had a few problems over the years, in fact I traded in my F800S for a GS because of the problems with the rear wheel bearings so I made sure I got a late model GS, if it causes me hassle I will dump it!:blagblah

I agree, I would love a good british bike but until the bike has had a couple of years and all the early model recalls sorted I think I will stick with the 800GS.

Methinks MCN do not want to admit the 800GS is better as they have sat on the fence with there (Verdict) comments. Not like other test on the GS650 which they rubbished. Also who wants 44 mpg when we can have 60+ anytime.:augie

I thought it was a pretty fair review, and similar bikes no suprise there! it would be a bad clone if it was not. :D

yeah ok the torque got confused in print and MPG vary slightly , It will have some teething problems as a new bike. I dont see any winner or looser just a preference.

ok they are touring dual sport adventure bikes.

most bike mags are nothing but road biased sport bikers.

so most touring bikes never get fair going over

lot i have heard prefer the bmw after testing both as triumph bit down on power

Really.......:nenau

BMW F800GS.............85hp
Tiger 800XC..............94hp

I think they were a little disappointed that the XC didn't have a bit more power ... looking at a Dyno curve for the Triumph I'd say that the XC and the GS probably produce about the same power, probably varying more between the same model than ewach other.

As for the conclusion I suspect that the Triumph is better on the road and the GS is better off the road. Which one you prefer is an individual choice. Personally I would like a lighter GS with better suspension for off road (and a better seat and screen for on road), all of which I have attended to to some extent. I will take an XC for a ride ... like those triples!, but I doubt I would be moved enough to swap. I await KTM's effort.

Here is a video from a strange Greek man who basically says the same thing as MCN;
