Michelin Pilot Road 4 - Press Release

Cheers for the reply and the link, been off the road for over a month now and the bikes only done 250 miles so I didn't want to have to change the front and the rear.

roadsmart1 not available for the new lc but the roadsmart2 is available now,had mine fitted Friday gone and the best wkend riding with decent rubber since I got the lc over 10,000miles ago

Sh--t missed this post ....off to the tyre place for some Roadsmart 2's

had the PR3's and put the PR4's on last week. wow, what a tyre...did not think any tyre could be better than the 3's, but the 4 is better. went for ride the other day and had to keep reminding myself the road was wet and to take it handy. grip is amazing. great tyre and will certainly recommend to anyone :aidan

michelin pilot 4

Hi has anyone in the uk found the pilot 4 front tyre in the 120/17r 19" yet ,every one I ask says its on its way?

Spoke to Michellin at the excel last week and he said that it wouldn't be available in the trail version until March, unless anyone knows differently?

I'm following this, as although the Anakee 3's are a great tyre (compared to the NEXT), the noise is driving me mad.

pr4

just booked this years service at alan Jefferies and asked if they would fit a set of pr4s, after a call to their supplier they said next day delivery on the tyres so it looks like they are out there unless I end up with a set of tt100s instead:aidan

So I really really wanted the PR4's but as noted earlier needed to replace the Anakee 3's and went for Roadsmart 2's. Today I sneaked in 150 miles, half of it wet, & these really hit the sweet spot for me :thumby:. For a mid weight 11st 10lb solo rider running 33/39 they were great. Very spankable.

I'll probably give the PR4's a shot towards the end of the year but for now very happy with the Roadsmarts. Similar to Lorus's experience on replacing the OEM tyres, today's ride was the best I've had in the 9 mths since picking up the old girl, even surpassing a jaunt down to The Med. Full confidence restored and now a very happy bunny :bounce1.

Hi did you get the pilot 4 trail in the 120/70 r 19 size for the front .I rang Michelin they said not available ?
George

Appreciate these are fairly new but has anyone got close to wearing out a rear yet? If so what kind of mileage are we looking at? Also, what's the difference between the road, GT and trail specs? About to finish off a PR2 rear and interested:)

Can't comment on the 4's but I had 3's on the 1150 last summer, our Dutch barman also had them on his 650 V-Strom. Both bikes use the same size tyres. I had the standard road version rear, Wilf had the trail version. My rear was knackered (apart from the centre of the tread) in a little over 4,000 miles. The V-strom has done about 500 miles more and still has a little left. The roads here are twisty and the surface grippy and much harder on tyres than in the UK. By comparison the previous Bridgestones lasted about the same but managed more than 6000 miles in the UK.

All things being equal I would go for the road versions again. The difference is that the edge compound extends closer to the centre than on the trail version. I would like to find out what the GT version offers. We can't ride until April so that is all I can add until we get to test the latest tyres. If they grip as well and last longer I will be very happy.

Thanks for the info - much appreciated. I had similar experiences with the PR3's - i.e. excellent tyres but the rears just don't last hence I went back to a PR2 on the rear and run a PR3 on the front. If the PR4 GT provides better mileage then I'll probably go for one of those next. Thanks:thumb

If you read what I said about tyre wear then I don't think you can come to the conclusion that mine didn't last. I think 4000 miles of very twisty roads with what could be said to be brisk progress is acceptable. As I pointed out I would expect to get at least 6000 miles from the rear in the UK, about the same as I got in 2007 (the last year I live there) with Bridgestone BT021

I ended up getting less than 3000 miles out of a rear PR3 with UK only riding and mainly weekend blasts - PR2's seem to to be worn out in a little over 4000 miles which is slightly better. Hence I was hoping that the PR4 GT would be a little harder wearing. Thanks for the info:)

Delivery problems for PR4 obviously sorted.

Ordered yesterday, here today. Trail front, GT rear.
