For the second time the glass has come loose on my mirrors. Has anyone taken them apart (well, got the glass out without breaking it) and used something suitable (silicone rubber???) to fix them permanently?

Happened to me with the 08 bike and the dealer replaced it immediately under warranty.

It was mentioned in passing that it was not the first time it had happened.

Indeed. It's just I'm out of warranty soon and am after a long term fix.

FWIW - I tried a raft of second hand bikes in a couple of dealers and the majority of bikes had loose mirrors. So some clever fettler must have come up with a fix

same thing has happend to the left mirror on my 07 gs, just used a bit of clear bathroom sealant to seal it back into place, and doesnt look like a bodge job, but only time will tell if it holds up

mirror

hi slowdown
my mirror was rattling and it looks as if there is a lip holding the glass in so i drilled a small hole underneath and filled the whole issue with builders silicone ,the one used was siroflex sx builders strength from local upvc window comany . can be used for building and upvc joints ,low modulus .have used it on a crack on a green house window ,still holding up after 3 years so i guess its ok eh . didn't want to dig the glass out with a screwdriver in the mirror ,the mirror has gone brown round the edges ,but think that was water got in before i filled with silicone..good bike apart from alloy corrosion and crap mirrors , mirror don't vibrate now full of sealant.:thumb think i will put a ktm sm 950 mirror on next , much neater and smaller than the mickey mouse ears .

mirrors in but with care!
used a modeling spatular thingy and an small amount of sealant squeezed out onto a ice cream tub lid and took my time,
think i did a neat job but can still see the sealant in the edges of the mirror but least it stops the f###ing annoying rattle at low speeds!
