Morocco 3rd Party Insurance

BMW Insurance Morocco

I phoned them, was told I would only get TPO cover from Morocco, and the Green card (x2!) arrived two and three days later!

Got my green card with Morocco on it this morning from BMW, took 10 days from calling them.

Insurance for Morocco

I enquired at Devitt in January for my BMW Mororrad Insurance to be extended to cover Morocco in April.

They asked if it was a BMW trip -"no", I replied, so they said they needed to check with the underwriter.

They called back 10 mins later confirming they would cover me for an extra £15 premium plus a similar amount to Devitt for "administration". I received my Green Card papers a few days later but I wasn't clear whether the cover was 3rd party only or fully comp as per my UK/European cover. So I wrote to Devitt and asked them to clarify this. I got a letter back by return confirming it was fully comp!

Conclusion

If you want it fully comp you need to ask for it and pay a modest charge, you also need to be lucky and speak to the right person when you call them. If you don't ask for fully comp there is no charge but its only 3rd party cover.

Insurance for Morocco

Planning a trip to Morocco in October and have started pulling together everything I need. Since my insurance was due this month, I renewed this today and asked casually about cover in October only to find that Equity Red Star (and some others) do not cover Morocco at all. Luckily, Carole Nash sorted me out with Royal & Sun Alliance who do give 3rd party cover for Morocco. I thought (mistakenly) that cover to Morocco would be easy to get from most insurance companies - but not so.

Cheers

They sell ...

... it at the Moroccan border; it's valid until you're out of sight ;)

Just a thought..
if you need to show your insurance to the police or if you have any problems,You get a better responce if you have the Insurance paper work bought from the Boarder rather than showing your policy from the UK.

All well and true - but it's better the other way around if it comes to actually making a claim :augie

Absolutely not. If you have a standard green card with Morocco cover there's absolutely no need for border insurance.

There are hundreds of tourist vehicles in Morocco at any one time, and the Police are well-versed with green cards.

I went years ago and had a green card from the UK - no problems. If you want fully comp try www.alessie.com They are a Dutch insurance broker and can sell you all risk cover on short term basis - bloody expensive though ! Cost me euros 200 for 2 months third party only. I was riding back from Syria after working there for 3 years and needed insurance for arrival in Europe.

Cheers

Just got this.........

I also am coming up for renewal with ebike soon after the Steptoe dash to the sand and they will not cover for Morocco. Full stop!

Called Carole Nash. They can provide cover inc fully comp (through NU and "Group Armour"???) but the premium goes from around £160 for the standard European cover to around £288!

Now, if I'm in Morocco for say 5/6 days that's quite expensive:aidan

Anyway, I can't take this as it overlaps with the current policy.

My Premium last time round with ebike was £144 btw.

So, what to do? Buy at the border?, get a specific policy before I leave (where from:nenau )?

Skip.

Buy at the border - they do a 5 day policy or a 30 day.

So the 5 day will cover you :thumb

For the Novices!

Right, I think I get it now and apologies for being a bit wet behind the ears.

Neil, as per usual is right.

If you have insurance that does not and will not cover Morocco (eg ebike) then you buy the insurance at the border. This seems to give you the "green card" cover required and claim assistance can be given through the MIB once back in the UK.

The MIB has a list of insurers on their web site. These insurers are represented both in the UK and Morocco and are recognised by the MIB.

So, reckon the border is the place to buy but you'll need money, licence, passport and V5.

Skip.

Said template can be found by asking certain ukgser members nicely, so I'm told. :angel :D
