Hi,

Two friends and myself are travelling round Morocco for 9 days in May on BMW R1200RTs. I have loaded Open Street Maps (see http://mapas.alternativaslibres.es/downloads.php) for Morocco into my Garmin Zumo 550 and Basecamp, they look detailed and helpful. Does anyone have any experience of how accurate and reliable these maps are?

We are not wanting to venture off tarmac roads and our route from Midelt to Tinrhir gives me some concern. I would like to enter the Todra Gorge from the north using the R703 and R706 via Outerbat, but if the road is poor, once off the N13 it will be hard day with no option but to continue. I would appreciate some up to date information on the state of these roads.

According to my map there are sections of your proposed route which contains unsurfaced roads. I wouldn't take an RT down there unless it was someone elses bike.

Good Luck. :thumby:

No experience with Open Street Maps, most people use Olaf's maps, see http://www.island-olaf.de/travel/marokko/gps.html

Midelt - Rich - Outerbat - Agoudal - Ait Hani - Tinerhir is fine.

You could also take a more northernly route which IMHO is better, which starts about 25km north of Midelt, and goes
Midelt - Ait Orhah (various spellings) - almost as far as Tounfite - Agoudim - Anefgou - Imilchil - Agoudal - Ait Hani - Tinerhir.
You will notice this route is green-edged on maps for being scenic.

As with any roads in Morocco, after rains there could be debris on the road, but otherwise should be OK.

Thanks Tim, it looks like I have 2 options. I'll see what the weather is like on the day.
