Just about to put a deposit on a GS (Triple Black I think they call it), but just before I do I wondered if anyone could help with MPG figures as they all seem to be litres per 100k. I have a KTM 990 Dakar which loves unleaded like an alcoholic loves drinking, and with a new job and 70 mile daily commute I need something more economical. Yes I know I could go down the F800 route but to be honest I don't like the look of them and having test road one it didn't push all the buttons.
Being new to the GS thing I just wondered if anyone could advise!

I ride a 57 plate 1200 GSA....I get circa 10-12 miles per litre; always tend to fill up up when the odometer reaches about 330/340 miles

33 litres = 7.26 gallons

10 miles per litre = 330 miles divide by 7.26 gallons = 45 mpg.

Don't commute on mine, so it's mainly M/way & A roads, plus some b roads too.

Even when I reach 330 miles and fill up, still find i've got anywhere up to 5 litres left.

Sadly, I dont have the tank range but I do get 46 MPG riding in general.

Mine is an elderly 1150 GS (not adventure) though don't think that will mean much as far as consumption goes.

45 MPG is the exact figure that I get on my GSA. A lot worse than my diesel engined car but much more fun!

According to the computer thingy on my 2010 gsa, ime getting 53mpg, but not sure how accurate that is

Yes often wondered how accurate those computer thingy were I doubt if they are particulary

1 gall = 4.55 litres

So 10 miles per litre = 10 x 4.55 = 45.5 mpg .

Or another calc' would be if you covered 140miles on say 15 litres then 140miles divide by 15litres x 4.55 = 42.5mpg.

Most 1200's seem to do mid 40's with a mixture of riding

Ypou'll read peeps getting over 50 but if you like the loud pedal and a bit of spirited riding, mid 40's is much more reality

Is there any difference in economy between new twin cam engine and the previous version I wonder

I have a 2011 Triple Black GS 1200. Commuting in Warsaw I am getting 5.6 l/100km or just over 50 mpg. On a longer run, I was getting 56 mpg.

I commute daily - 40 miles motorway and 20 miles country lanes, i also try and do as much as i can at weekends mainly country lanes and b roads. average 49.5 mpg.

Still running it in, so not spirited.....will be getting there soon though as just had 600m service.

Mid 40's seems more achievable/likely - some long slow runs might return higher mpg but even 75-80mph motorway runs are probably going to be less than 50mpg - keeping it between 60-70 should increase it quite a bit.
