My arse hurts

I had a standard '08 GS and had no problems at all, did 3 tours of Scotland,7-8 hour days.

Got a '10 GSA now and I hate the seat, it pushes me forwards towards the tank and I start aching and trying to shift position after half an hour.
My mate has a Sargent and loves it,so I need to borrow it for good long ride.
I've been looking at the Touratech seats especially the new Comfort Seat "High End - Actively-Breathing" has anybody tried any of these?

I don't have the "High End" seat, but I do like their Kahedo seats, & have one on my GSA, & I think it's a big improvement on the standard seat.

Really, I've never found this. I assume you've not got the seat height set lower on the front than the back?

No both are on the lower position, I tried the front on the higher one with the rear still on the lower but my legs aren't long enough in some situations!

Anyone know of a comparison review of aftermarket seats?

My Solution

I had numb bum for ages and tried different aftermarket seats, including a Sargent seat, plus all variations there of. My solution is:

Raise seat high in front and low back
Airhawk and Sheepskin

I modified the Airhawk by extending the fill/deflate hose out from under the sheep skin so I can adjust it whenever I like without removing the sheepskin. This helps me during a ling ride, when stopped, to inflate or deflate the Airhawk and this changes the pressure spots and I am good for an all day ride.
The only negative is I am a little bit shorter in the legs.

I have rang Tony Archer and he quoted £120 for putting a gel pad in each seat.

ive had gel pads put in both my seats on an 09 gsa by tony archer.
did 2000 miles in morocco in 5 days and can honestly say that the gel pads were a waste of money!! i think basically that the seat is crap and you just have to put up with it.........
or change your bike:confused:

Seriously thinking about having tony archer fit gel pads. Does anyone have an experience of this modification ?, if so whs it any good ?.

Can I just check pls. You guys complaining of 'numb bum' are you including excruciating coccycs in this description? Just about to press the button on a Sargent; really really hope it's a solution to the latter.

Initially they take some getting used to, and do need to bed in....stick with them.

I've done 7/800 mile days on mine, with about 2,000 miles over 4 days once.....although I've done similar on the stock Gsa seat my backside knew it way way more!!!

I'd go for it....cos as has been said, if you don't get on with it (after bedding in) you'll be able to sell it on without too much of a loss at all.

No problem....happy to help. :thumb2

I'm sure you'll be pleased with the Sargent (..I hope :augie), the majority are I'd say. :thumb2

I've always had good service from NN...though some do moan...and that's where I got mine. :D

GSA Seat

Did 6000mile round trip to Crete May (out) Sept (back) via various bits of Europe wearing my old BKS leathers. 3,4 or 500 miles per day no numb bum problems, but leathers just too hot south of alps.
Bought some BMW "summer" textile trousers. Good armour knees and hips and very cool (heatwise) but black so not twatty. Very pleased but numb bum after 80-100 miles.

Having cool drink north of Pisa trying to reason this out.

Is it merely thickness of material between bum and seat?

If so is a dead sheeps coat the answer?:Motomartin

FWIW I found my Corbin seat made a world of difference, a little too wide for my short legs, but ferkling about with the Stanley Blade helped no end - full days in the saddle no prob.
And suitable undewear helps.

Lambland sheepskin pad :clap Just used it for the first time for a trip to France/Belgium - best £15 spent for a while. Takes the "burn" out that seems to set in after around 200 miles or so.

I bought some wide elastic and 4 clips similar to those found on braces and made up two straps. One goes from from to back and the other from side to side. This keeps the pad in place when you stand on the pegs
