I know the winds are high, but this is ridiculous!

Riding to work this morn, and fighting the headwind, I was minding my own business when I caught a glimpse of a small, light-coloured object disappearing past me from behind the dashboard. I figured it was a piece of paper or plastic backing off my keyfob or something, and thought no more of it...
Except, parked up at the petrol-station in a queue an hour ago, I'm sat contemplating the dash before... "something's missing"... On top of the head bearing, where I'm sure there's supposed to be a logo, is a black component with a hole in the middle and a locating notch at the 12:00 position. :(

Anyone had this before? Or reckon there's a way I can get a new one without having to fork out silly amounts? I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do that, and I'd like to avoid shelling out if possible, and being able to prevent it happening again in any case...

Sonic, I was out in it today and all the rest were in their square boxes protected from the gale force rain and wind. Having read your note I thought I had better check myself and I can't work out what you have lost. Both my badges from the side panels are there and I could'nt see any other BMW emblem I might have lost! Mind you I have had a few glasses of vino, so it did make me laugh if nothing else. Perhaps someone else can put there finger on it!!

:D:D

you don't mean the black thing where the key goes in and shows you lock, ignition, etc, No idea how much they cost but that is very unlucky if you lost that!

7 is the plastic version,
11 (12+13) is the classy alloy version with BMW logo.

I'm pretty sure what's currently there is the backplate to something - it's plastic (having gone out to check), and has a ~6mm hole in it leading towards some metal bit. The top's flat except for the groove at 12:00, and the whole thing is below the surface of the fork brace by about 2mm. All leads me to believe I've lost something. :(
Anyone got a recent GS handy to check?

just seen you have an 08 gsa, they come with a blue and white bmw logo on the top yoke now.
Looks like you have lost the top part with the logo on it.

If it came out it wasn't fitted right......definite warranty claim IMHO.

I agree with Mike, sonic, if its meant to be fixed and it falls off then BMW have not done their finishing right. Can't be blamed on the weather as the whole area is shielded. Get it back to your dealer and have them fit another, better super clue it this time.

Yeah - I thought I'd try that route, and just got off the phone to BVM.
New one in the post as a warranty claim, and they've also had my software update come in. :D

*does the happy dance of "soon to be fully-working bike"*

Will it fit where the plastic cap goes on the earlier models? If so I want one, any idea how much they cost?

Regards
