OK here goes..............
1150gs, '01 Yreg has abs, heated grips and bmw alarm inc immobiliser.
Normally when ignition is switched on, you then have to 'activate' it by pressing the left hand button on the alarm fob. Once this is done the rider display wakes up and you can hear what i presume to be the fuel pump.
Anyway, a few weeks ago i stop for fuel on the way home, when it comes to start the bike again, i go through the usual proceedure ( as alarm self arms ) but nothing happens, i try a few more times but still nothing, can't be the battery in the fob as the red led still lights up.
After much wiggling of wires around the headstock (have got the usual problem there with idiot lights doing their own thing due to dodgy front loom) and swearing etc, i finally stumble accross the solution.............................
Switch on ignition, switch on hazard lights, and the rider display etc suddenly works again. WTF???
ALSO... the clock on the rider display goes blank when you switch off and reads 0:00 when you switch back on using the hazard light method???

Have been using the bike like this for a few weeks now, but I am getting concerned about not having the alarm for some piece of mind.
If anyone can shed any light on this I will be most grateful :nenau  :nenau

My advice is

Remove

Alarm

And

Put

In

Bin

They`re more trouble than they`re worth.

Right oh,

Is this just a case of unpluging all the connections?

Or is there more to it than that, as if it is that easy for me, then surely it's that easy for a tea leaf too?? :nenau

I`m sorry my first post wasn`t all that helpful but you wouldn`t believe the number of people who`ve asked me to sort their bike out because they`ve got 'electrical problems' on a bike fitted with an alarm.

I just don`t think these alarms are durable enough for the rigours of life on a bike ( Awaits the 'My Meta alarm has been no trouble in so many years', etc ).

Fobs can go out of synch with the alarm.

The LED`s can work, but the alarm won`t arm/disarm on pressing the button
(On this matter..have you tried removing the batteries and cleaning the contacts or putting new batteries in ? )

Dry soldered joints.

Poor installation,etc etc.

Anyway....some alarms more or less unplug.....others need a few connections to be looked at.
Can you find out who installed yours or do you have the manual for it containing the installation notes ?

I don`t think any details should be posted on the Internet for obvious reasons.
