New 1200 LC TE

Hi to all, thought I'd post up some early thoughts after a week of ownership.
Traded in my 2010 tc after trying out a few bikes.
Tried the Yamaha Super Tenere, I really wanted to like this bike, went out for a decent run, couple of hours and came back disappointed. Ergos' and engine didn't do it for me. Sorry to the fans of the S10.
Then went out on a new GSA, again not impressed, felt heavy and didn't feel like a £15,000 bike.
Next was a Versys 1000, WAHAY! What a lovely bike and very nearly did a deal straight after the test ride.
Salesman got a bit pushy, which turns me off so decided to walk away and think about it.
Got back on my bike and felt like I'd cheated on my bike as it ran so sweetly and taunted me with its all round ability.
Quandry...... rang BMW dealer and asked to go out on a normal GS.

Hooooooeeeeeee. Didn't want to stop riding. Got back and did the deal there and then.

Sooooo, got the gear shift assistant and keyless ignition as extras, toys but love 'em.
Also got the free Nav V which is a cracking piece of kit.

Just got back from the first proper run out.
230 miles of fun!
From Rochdale way down to Glossop, Snake pass then up to Hawes via Strines moor, Settle and home using every twisty bumpy road I know.
Seat, comfy enough, impressed with the screen, no need to change.

I know it's the honeymoon period but really happy so far.

Just need to put on my fastway pegs and all sorted.

The GS LC TE is just that bit sleeker, nimbler and all round more useable than the kiddies tonka toy GSA - you made the right choice

The differences are minimal, the gs definitely feels a bit more nimble, reckon looks looks good too n no scraped knuckles cleaning spokes! Mine has done nearly 10k miles in 18 months and is still like new, can see me keeping it a few years yet.

Correct. It's an expensive motorcycle for people who can afford an expensive motorcycle. Judging by the numbers sold, there's plenty of people who can afford an expensive motorcycle. Of course you can always get one on a PCP for about £200 a month.

However next year's All Black edition with spoked wheels and all the trimmings is awfully nice.

Thanks for the replies, I should stress that the point of the post wasn't to criticise other bikes. It's more to do with the other thread on here that asks what it is about the GS that makes it inspire confidence. It's the total feeling....... I know, not empirical and purely subjective.

The Versys I tried was a complete hoot and I would have bought it but as soon as I got back on my bike I asked myself if it was really better, whereas my new bike "Feels" a better bike, (Digging a hole here.......)

Got a run up to Scotland coming up soon so I'll get a chance for another perspective pretty quickly, I might wish I'd gone for the GSA.....!
Forgot to add......it's the faster Red one , so might account for my Rose Tinted......

Picking up my new Alpine White tomorrow. Traded in my 12 plate triple black GSA, which I will miss, as she's too heavy now for me old bones to pick up . Tried various models to replace her, KTM SA, XR, Versys looked at Honda, Triumph, but have gone back to the beginning of my relationship with BMW and another GS. They do everything and more, and if it ain't broke......... Feeling Happy Sad

Totally agree, had 2 GS's and an Adventure. Got a Triumph 1200 Explorer at the moment, its not a patch on the GS at all.
Waiting for my new 2016 GS I have ordered, hopefully the 1st September

I'm that excited about my impending return to GSing that I'm posting like a demented lab rat!

I've been bikeless for 4 years and all that time I've convinced myself that I've not missed it but after finally getting over the idea that riding less than 15k miles per year is a waste of time (what I used to do) I've got my heart set on a new all black GS TE.

Sure, the cost is a factor but, and this is a big but, once you're on the BMW escalator it's not expensive to stay on it. Depreciation is far less than other marques and [I sincerely hope] the quality issues are all resolved since my debacle with my 2009GSA.

I'm going for the PCP option, I can afford to pay cash but some deals are too good to pass up) and as others have said there is no other bike like the GS. I've had many bikes in my time but since discovering the 1150GS 10 years ago I've barely looked back. They just work, in almost all circumstances, and in my experience an average GSer can ride the bike within 90% of its capacity 90% of the time.

I am SO looking forward to my test ride tomorrow and then waiting impatiently for my new, extra, very expensive, toy to arrive!

I guess it needs the quick shifter and a front mudguard extender, but I'm unsure about the alarm and other choices.

The quick Shifter chappy seems to divert opinion - I love it.

Expensive - yes, but my 1150 lasted me for 13 years, so if this does the same, that's too bad per year (man-maths?)

Did you know that you can move your hand when operating the indicator?

The alarm is OK but they don't supply a fob (you can ask for a K1600 fob) and don't expect an insurance discount - as the alarm can be defeated with the key it's not rated by any of the security companies (and doesn't pop up on any comparison site except BMW insurance). At least you can disable the motion sensor if it's going on a train or ferry.

Just perusing the bmws configurator website (didn't know there was a GSA XE, whats the spec difference as the configurator isn't that clear. Also looking at the triple black and for the £500 over the TE model what is the difference in spec (other than colour!)

have you got your deal cast in stone,if so who with?i ordered my gs in black,a week later the dealer phoned me to tell me that black is not available only red and that blue colour.when I said I'd have to ponder the matter over the weekend and decide if I wished to proceed he offered me an alpine white bike at the same price which I'm happy with.I asked if I could order a triple black'pay the extra and was told no,not if I want the 2.9% and sat nav offer.if you've secured one please let me know as I'm still waiting on delivery of white bike

you can get a triple black on 2.9% and free sat nav,ive just picked up my new alpine te with spoke wheels and my brother gets his triple black in 2 weeks time,both on 2.9% and nav 5 deal
