New 1200GS - MCN Video

How many Youtube videos are out there of the GS on off-road terrain or packed to the rafters for a RTW trip? :rob

As much as I hate MCN, I think its quite refreshing to see an ADV being ridden like that. I wish I could get my knee down

I like riding like a twat so don't see a problem with this vid. I only wish I could mono wheel mine like that

Feck me you lot cheer up, half of need to join the BMW club and dig out that ready rubbed:P

At least he's showing that the bike can be ridden hard, wheelie like a good un and go round corners with everything scraping which is something some of us know already:D

Bring it on.......:thumb

LADS just because it was on the tinternet and in colour does not mean you have to ride your gs's like that or wear white boots

SO CHILL OUT

Al:)

don't see the problem

on those roads that how I ride, he's hanging off to lower the centre of gravity. I know you might drop your pipe and scuff your slippers riding like this but it is fun all the same :)

If they didn't do that, then the sportsbike jockeys would think it didn't handle. But how many of them do you see on a Sunday meet, with knee sliders covered in cobwebs and dust??

Er, my leather trousers have knee sliders. Should I be worried?

Spot on, you can ride it quickly if you want to, I do, but have never found it neccesary to get a knee down. Every bike is different, so why test them in one standard fashion, shows a lack of knowledge to me and an insult to the manufacturerers by portraying the bike in a way it probably wasnt intended.

The Journo isnt doing us any favours riding it like that as is just yet more ammunition for the anti biking brigade.

Each to their own - just a little surprised that so many people got upset by seeing a bike being ridden in a different style to the way they ride. :comfort
I would also be very surprised if BMW felt in any way insulted by the clip -quiet the reverse I would have thought. :P
Also if I remember right the journo in question is a bit of a GS lover having had at least 2 long term 1200 test bikes and so knows more than most journos how to ride a GS :augie

bang on the money:thumb2

Clearly from your earlier posts you should remove them straight away before you are tempted to ride a GS in an "inappropriate" manner :D

Good idea. They are somewhat redundant as I'm physically incapable of moving quick enough to get my knee down. I'm going to keep them on to protect my knees should I fall over at traffic lights or similar:augie

BTW, I don't object to people riding a GS like this, it just seems to my non-pipe smoking mind that that riding style is suits a sports bike more than a GS - type bike and I don't understand this whole knee-down thing anyway. What does it actually do? I was brought up in an age before it became the fashion you see and I seem to be able to get around corners reasonably quickly:)

how many times have i heard on this very forum that the gs is one of the best allrounders on the market and the video just shows that you can be a little racey on a gs and its not just for the pipe and slippers gandg and my idols charlie and ewan ,

just tightens the many strings on the gs bow in my eyes

Al :)

LOL, I know as well as you do Captain that getting yer knee down on the road is a complete load of bollox. You'll see it in the Mags 'cos it makes a good picture, but the reality or fast public road riding, is that its completely unnecessary.
If you are genuinely asking why do it (not sure whether you're taking the piss here or not ...), then the answer (on a track) is, that its your feeler gauge. Its like an insects dangly off the top of your head thing. It gives you a 6th sense feed back from the floor, how far over you are, how much further you could go, and of course if you're a real hero, you'll save your front end if you slide it like the amazing save Colin Edwards did last season.
Personally, I think the video's quite refreshing. Mark Potter probably is a bit of a knob, but I think seeing a GS hooned and wheelied down the road won't do its credibility any harm at all. :thumb2

I've never done it in my life (see my chicken strips - wide enough to land a 747 on) but I must admit I'm tempted to give it a go, even on a GS, just to see what it's like. I know it can be done on a GS as a retired colleague who was a double Polis Class 1 driver recently almost ripped his foot off he got the GS over so far...

Mind you I might get stuck in the knee down position with my back as it is :augie

Leave the knee down stuff to the racers on a circuit, im all for getting a good ole pace on but knee down stuffs just not needed on the road because .....

1 You look like a twat and 2 You look like a twat

Mcn dont do themselves any favours sometimes, most mature riders want a good review on all aspects of a bike aswell as giving it a scutchin........
it reminds me of a certain test with the Ktm 990 and the Gsa where the Mcn riders just did doughtnuts on the beach mmmmm not so informative.

I purchase Mcn most weeks and generally enjoy it, come on Mcn get these reviews up too scratch, and putting the bikes through their paces can be part of it also

p.s perhaps the knee sliders would be more suited on the sticky out cylinders:augie

I say chaps , bloody nerve eh ?? Somebody enjoying themselves on a GSA, what will those dreadfull journos get up to next ?:augie

Guys , get a life and take a packet of chill pills. Its no wonder BMW owners are perceived by other bikers as knobheads.

So from one knobhead to another, live and let live, and enjoy what the machine does for you. Each to his own eh?:beerjug:
