New Bike - Corrosion Test

I get the bit about garage jet wash and salt but i personally believe that some of the fault here lays with BMW

My pal has just got rid of his GSA ( warranty and preferential deal) as it needed a new engine and frame due to rust

The bike had never been out on salted roads (he's a big girls blouse) and never been near a jet wash !

The bike lived its life in a damp free garage and ridden in the dry unless there was no choice and cleaned regularly

Don't suppose you have any pictures?

Cleaned regularly with what products? (This is very important. Cleaning it regularly with Washing Up Liquid is not cleaning it in my mind).

Engines can't rust as they are aluminium, so I presume you meant it corroded. Where exactly?

My disagreement with you was not whether salt is corrosive (I've not mentioned it), it was that you claimed to have the 'perfect comparison' and that the bikes were 'identical' (your words), when they are plainly not for the reasons I stated.

My question over foam washes was that can a wash on product, with a ph roughly to soapy water have such an effect after a few minutes expose every so often?

For the purposes of not being an arse, they are identical.

2 x BMW R1200GS Adventure Triple Blacks built within 6 months of each other. It's not like I'm comparing a completely different bike.

The reason I stated it was perfect is because I DONT use Jet Washers and the other guy does. It's a Case In Point.

If you've found a Domestic snow foam which doesn't strip waxes off your motorcycle, then that's a good positive contribution to this thread. Thank you.

So now were off the runway and clear of obstacles... may it continue...

Some twats on here sitting on their high chair and hiding behind their keyboard like wimps have spoiled a perfectly useful thread. Any one with an ounce of common Sense can make out that this is not a scientific comparison. What a bunch of fuck&$#ng bunch of cuntards who have spoiled a.perfectly useful thread.

Dear, dear, Mr Angry, you need to up your medication to suppress your anger . Some posters on here take umbrage very easily because another forum subscriber disagrees with a point they have made and becomes abusive. Does this remind you of any one close to home. spread the love my non GS owning friend

Dunno but i doubt he used washing up liquid he is a sensible chap Thanks for being pedantic about the Engine I didn't know that.

BMW wanted to replace the engine and the frame under warranty but he wasn't happy with that ( I would not have been either) so he negotiated a deal to swap XR

As said never used in winter so no salt, no jet wash either at home or garage forecourt. 6000 miles and 18 months old

Love to hear your reasoning as to how it is his fault rather than BMW for this world conquering go anywhere bike

Didn't suggest it was his fault. I was trying to gather more information to provide an opinion.

Not sure he or I are particular interested in your opinion TBH as BMW clearly saw it as a warranty issue therefore they accepted fault with the bike and at the end of it that is what matters

i use valet pro ph neutral foam or pro green ph neutral..not through a lance but in a bucket, bucket with a grit guard, then jetwash it off with an old knackerd 15yr old karcher, gives the right power with out blowing the seals into next doors garden, then dry off with micro fibre or dog dryer then FS360 OR GT85, spray it everywhere inc underneath, light film, leave to go tacky then go back and polish to a buff finish, if its too thick put a bit of fs360 gt85 on a microfibre cloth to break it down, then use poorboys detailing products and clean the disks with isoproyl alcohol ( brilliant stuff and cheap and great as a cleaner).... 6 GS's and not a sign of corrosion

That's what I use, but I do apply it with the jet wash. I make sure I rinse the bike thoroughly, after it's been on for 10 minutes, then sponge off with Zymol car shampoo, then blow dry, then go over the whole bike with a microfibre cloth.

Skid06, does isopropyl alcohol get FS360 or GT85 off the disks? Woukd you know if I can use isopropyl alcohol if I get acf50 on the disks?

dont know about ACF50 as ive not used it but works on everything else, i use it neat for this job but other cleaning about 60/40 with de-ionised water

The ONLY exception is I wash mine by hand, and he Jet Washes his in Caustic Acid Foam Cleaner (like ALL garage forecourt Jet Washers)
The other exception is his has gone through a very mild English Winter
In my opinion it isn't BMW quality, it's owners using Industrial Chemicals on their bikes.
Only must mean something different in the UK. His was exposed to salt, and your bike was not. That alone will ruin your results RE: caused by normal soap.
