New Bike Few Questions

This is simply unbelievable. The starter motor on my r has been iffy for a while. It's just after dying as well:(

Maybe I should go to the church and light a few candles...maybe that gypsie curse put on me on christmas eve is taking effect:blast

Just tried to jump start it using a running car battery.

Nothing starting.

Relay chattering

can hear the starter motor going but it's not firing. Checked the connections on starter motor. all fine.

Loads of power in the battery.

does it sound like the starter motor is gone?

This is brillient, I buy a bike to replace the unreliable one and this...

How did you made the connections when jump starting? Did you connect to the battery terminal or did you try feeding the starter directly?

Knuckles would you ever pay the £12 subs fee so you can get PM's !

I was gonna pass you my number but I'm damn sure I'm not stickin it up ont interweb thingy!¬

haha! My subscription ran out on the 26th of december!!

Well, I've a new battery and a new starter motor. They didn't charge for the labour. I've got the old starter motor. I plan on taking a lookinside it soon.

I'm not the sort to just splash the cash folks but I'm going into an eight day series of hard work days and I could'nt afford the time. Can't afford the 500 euro's either but I could afford the time less.

I'll post pix when I can but the starter motor is rusted beyond belief!

I've a new gel battery and I plan on riding her everyday so she should stay charged.

Update!
What an amazing bike. it can turn on a six penny piece! I brought it down to the beach earlier to test out the lights and see how she felt...i used to bring my rseries down there and knew the road. What a hoot!!!

The handling is really amazing and I get on it seem to find a new way to go somewhere or take longer getting home than normal:D

I'll collect that box off you in the next week or two Colin.

Flatnuckles seems you have it sorted. I was going to suggest the starter motor as I had the same problem on my R1150GS, and was going to suggest you contact Motorworks as they sell reconditioned ones and will buy yours off you.

The clock resetting could be fuse 3. Have a quick search and you'll see loads of information about it.

Phew

Jeez buddy glad you got her going, for a minute i thought there was gonna be a unreliable 1150gsa story hitting the net....:Motomartin

I've a lot to learn allright. The can of acf is out on Sunday. going to give her a good wash down below too. I'll hopefully get a working starter motor out of the two broken ones I have. I think the pinion is stuck on my other one. That should be easy. Thanks for tip about flogging this one to motorworks:thumb

Time will tell on reliability (just touched wood!) but I'd say we'll have some fun times together. I think I'll do France in May this year. July was just sooo hot last year.

Not sure what this fella's all about but he looks happy:oonyack

Take care,

FK.

Flatknuckles glad you got your starter motor sorted. I think you might have misunderstood. I believe Motorworks will only buy your starter motor if you buy either a new or reconditioned one from them first.

although, no harm in asking :thumb
