NEW ENGINE!

Makes you wonder how this is funded, are BMW making such huge profit on each bike that they are happy to just replace engines/final drives etc or is it a loss leader, maybe the slight loss in their profit margin is worth it to maintain growth of sales in the GS market, who knows?
cheers

Basically we are doing the development for them , and whilst people still pay top money for a basically unreliable machine , Bmw will carry on with a win win situation

Having just had an engine changed under warranty - what is the collective view about the need to get a first service/oil changed after 600 miles ?

Dealer said wasn't needed, but 600 m service indicator came on immediately ignition was turned on, dealer then cleared service indicator and advised correct oil was in engine ?

If the bike is a keeper I would change the oil and filter but do it myself or let the dealer do it as long as the price is not silly even if they say its not required

I picked up my bike with new engine on Thursday. I asked the dealer if the 600 mile oil change was part of the warranty work. "Yes, book it in when you need it done."

Dealer told me that if the first 600 mile service and oil change wasn't carried out it would effect the warranty, it should be free as you will have already have paid for a 600 mile service in the past, why should you be out of pocket.

According to Haynes manual the bike is supplied with a smaller running in filter which is replaced with the larger normal one at the first service, are the replacements coming with the larger filter ?

Your dealer is a wrong and should be pointed to this thread

The 600 mile service is FREE to you and part of the warranty claim your dealer will make for replacing your engine

Have any bikes had more than one engine ?
because if they haven't addressed the corrosion problem surely it's going to happen again.

I've been told the 600 mile service is included with my new engine.

The 600 mile service after a replacement engine is free, IF the bike is less than 2 years old. (I.e. in it's 2 year warranty period). If, like mine it was outside the warranty period then you pay for the service. As I had too.

Dunno, but I would guess they would have done something to stop the flow of expensive bits back to the factory? Watch this space!

What make you think the engines are going back to the factory ? They may have had a few to start with but not anymore.

That makes perfect sense but the person I was answering had a bike within the manufacturers warranty hence the reason I gave the answer I did ;)

Do you know if you get the new 2017 E4 engine ?

New engine

Do you know if you get the new 2017 E4 engine ?

Well I don't know about engine designations but the chaps said I had the new one. The gear change in the lower three gears is transformed - the inevitable clunks are gone, it's sweet. I now have a 24,200 mile bike with an 800 mile engine!

Hay guys,

Dropped my 65 plate GSA off yesterday for the new engine, drive and bevel! So I can see some guys are asking about which engine will be fitted? How can you tell?

Hopefully she will be ready for collection Thursday! Might just ask the dealer what engine is fitted?

Regards
