So, as mentioned i seem to have bought an R1100GS.
Went to view last week, black 98/R, 113,000 mls. It is cosmetically challenged but nothing to be to concerned about.
Went to collect this morning, thought it would be either kill or cure re the gout but I really needed to get out!!!
First impression on the 14 mile ride home.
The engine is a stonker. Really, really smooth, and quiet.
The gearbox. It was overhauled at Bath rd Motorcycles a couple of years ago. I have the receipt, basically new input shaft/clutch, the usual. They did renew forks/bearings as well and the gearbox is real peachy! Thats the one main worry that i had when looking for one so, no worries there!
The disc bobbins are rattling, I need to take a look at them in a bit of detail, whats the worse? I have rattled them & looks like bobbins and washers will do the trick.
The ABS is not working. Its ABS2 so shouldn't be a major issue, but if the controller is furked i'll take it off!
Heated grips are knackered, worn right through, worse ive ever seen!
Its a bit 'scabby', especially the engine. I took a 'pile' of paint off it today! hey ho.
Tyres (well rear) shot. I have just picked up a set of nearly new TKC's from Drillam, so no worries there either.
It really just needs a bit of TLC, well OK a lot of TLC, but all in all its a decent bike!
There was a big wedge of paperwork so I just went through it.
All MOT's présent.
BMW service history up till 90k, last owner bought BMW service kit and did the last 2 himself.
Loads of BMW bills.
It also has an Acumen alarm (dont know what they are like but if it ails its going in the bin!)
2 keys/alarm fobs.
GIVI top box and 1 system pannier (other one was knocked off in traffic!)
I think I'm going to be happy with it!
First pic, when i got it home
A couple more..
Looks a bit neglected!
When taking these I did wonder if i had done the wrong thing!!!!
But, a few hours and a bit of work and......
Hmmm...
Looking better yet?
I honestly think it was the first time it had been polished!
Had a quick go at the wheels, good old WonderWheels!!
Tons to do yet but all in good time!!!
Lookin good so far..
Must do something with that screen, years of road grime and flies....
Just need to get some advice off MikeP ref cleaning up the headers!
I think for a first clean its not come up too bad. Wheels need a bit more work but will come back.
I really think there is something to be said for not cleaning a bike, i'm sure it leaves a protective film over most things, shame it didnt work with the handlebars!!
More to follow...
Steve.

Steve.
Mine cleared up well from a rough old state. Took me a year to get it as I wanted but its been well worth it. Keep your eye in the For Sale section for bits and pieces to improve what you can't clean up.
