Hey BMW have got really smart.

300miles on the bike, but I didn't seem to be getting the fuel consumption everbody else was, in fact the last tank only lasted 100 miles (whilst running in!).

Just got home and noticed it turns out that BMW let fuel pour drain out of the side near what I presume is the fuel guage - right onto the hot engine (where I presume it evaporates - or not) - and saves you masses of extra weight in fuel.

Waiting now for a decsision (being called back in 15mins half an hour ago) as to fix it or ship it back to Crewe.

Pissed off. Yup.

Thankfully I still have a perfectly functional never let me down Japanese bike.

I don't believe it.

Keeping you posted

K

They are going to try and fix it by 9.........not bad. In the interests of fair play I'll keep you posted.

Slightly happier.

Not happy again......

Stuck in traffic, yeah right, might pick it up tonight - back to dealer.

9k!! Pah.

nothings perfect

obviously a silly fault..........so what, they will fix it !!!!:D nothing is ever perfect all the time.....................even Jap bikes have teething problems..............:D

I wonder what they will do if it has stained the Engine yellow.

Sure, its a silly fault...and a lot less serious than others I read about here. But its still a fault that has caused me a lot of bother and may cause more.

I expect trouble with older cheaper bikes which is why I bought a new BM - reliability and longevity. right.

Its gone 11 and I'm still waiting...just not what I would expect from BM thats all.

I think I'd be more inclined to blame the dealer rather than the bike..........sounds like they missed a connection on the PDI.

Still sucks though.

correct

Fanum is right !!!!
I really dont like dealing with main dealers, very suspicious, work often below standard and faults invented to create warranty work, especially when business slow.
I know you need the service book stamped though. I tend to let my guy who looks after all my bikes service regardless of what the dealer does...........i just tell the dealer (for my STX1300 at the moment,) that i'm only letting them near it because of the service stamp, they dont need to do anything just check it and of course charge me for the priviledge.........................costly I know but peace of mind more important........................do buy the consumables from them though so they know i've had the neccessary bits..............when I get my 1200 I will want it looked after properly and if the schedule is anything like the Pan then looking after it properly means doing lots more than the service manual says.........................New bikes have so much dry fitting even where really lubrication is vital so that nuts come undone in the future when things corrode and the like.............:D
and yes it is still sucks and I didnt mean to be that flippant:D

Outcome...ish

Bit like a support group this.....

Now I'm a bit calmer I'll let you know what has happened so far.

I had to phone again at 11 ...somebody turned up at nearly midnight. ANd after BM saying they would try to repair it...it was just a man with a truck prepared to take it away.

So I waited all that time to be towed for what appears to be a simple fuel leak, which I would have fixed myself if 1. I had had the tools and 2. I didn;t think it would invalidate any warranty.

I't's almost worse that it was a simple problem that will be fixed in 5mins but they have had it towed...because it still means the same buggeration factor to me.

OH - and its 11:30 am an nobodys bothered to contact me at all.........it just keeps on getting better.

Problem is its a cracking bike while its working.

Sorry to be really flippant, but is your surname really Fuell, and is there a certain irony that you have a fuel leak? Maybe someone is watching over you and having a laugh.

I met a bloke called Derek Finaldrive at Vines the other day.....etc etc.

Sorry.

Andy von Sidestandsnappedoff.

Ah Tobers - the first person to note that ...

and yes indeed it is Fuell. Sort of Ironic isn't it.

I always thought that being called Fuell would be my Totem against Fuel problems, how wrong could I be.

I also thought my middle name of BMWCustomerService might do the same, but unfortunatley nobody has yet bothered to call and tell me what has happened to my bike or where it is.

Oh and for taking the p*ss I'll have a free set of those natty Tobinators - which by the way is a real coincidence, them being called Tobinators and you being called Tobers - isn't life wonderful.

;)

Even stranger is that my surname is Tobin - wierd that :D

I can see a synergistic name thread hijack coming up....

Probably better than me rattling on about my problems with B&^M%^&W

er....who still haven't contacted me.

Richard,

This is not personally targeted at you by BMW Emergency Service.

When my gearbox croaked a week ago(1100+ miles) they listened intently, called me back to say that the technician would arrive in 4 hours+ and when he did he took one look and sent for the lift truck.

In conversation with the ES lot I learned that BMW has outsourced this service and so I started to understand that they will probably always send a technician before the lift truck as it is a set procedure for which they are probably paid piece work.

The result was that the gearbox was ordered one day(Friday) later and this rounded up the repair time to a week.

The good news is that they seem to have done a good job, and BMWES sent out a questionaire which I filled in diligently and wrote a letter explaining how I think they got it wrong.

Oh, and they offered me a car which I do not need, but the dealer did not offer use of a bike. And I had to bitch somewhat to get their agreement to pay my GBP22 taxi fare to go and collect the repaired bike. I am waiting to hear what the failure was in the "box and I will post.

And I agree that if you had fixed the leak it could not effect the guarantee, though no doubt some greedy/paranoid dealers will say otherwise. Honda UK apparently accept home servicing without prejudice based on EU law. Last time I looked Germany was in the EU, but not many Germans or Bavarians think Bavaria is in Germany. Sort of Yorkshire in spades.

Hope it all works out well.

My ABS/Servo pump packed in today. I have to say the R850R courtesy bike shows how good the GS12s are ......when they're actually working.....Still dealer has nice coffee and I don't have a day off work for over a week....

A beer I think......maybe 20....

Chris

Interesting to hear these experiences.

I don't think its personal by BMW Emergency services either, as I have had excellent services from them re my car. I just think that I could do a better job of keeping a new customer in the loop.

I had to phone my dealer to find out what was happening because I assummed that BMWES would let them know that a bike they supplied only a few days before had failed and I might like some TLC. This is not so.

The dealer who I assummed to be good to deal with as they were up until I bought the bike called BMWES for me and found it had been delivered to...er a dealer closer. Who I was told would ring me.

They didn't, so I phoned my dealer again just now, to be told - do I want their number. Well I might be thick but I can find a number, what I actually want is for somebody to contact ME and tell ME what the **** is going on. And seeing that I only took the bike from them 3 days or so ago I wouldn't have thought it would be too much trouble for them to do it for me.

Trouble is I want the thing back, and it really is such a piddling job.

Doesn't seem to be any 'joined up thinking' going on at BM, and I've accepted that by being stubborn and not calling the only person that gets shafted is me.

PS I didn't get the offer of a car or bike, unless I called back the next day - which would have been great for business.

Upshot is I guess I won't be taking it back to the dealer I got it from, I'd rather pay for the first service, and I won't be taking it to my local dealer who can't be arsed, or who doesn't have a procedure in place to notify people what is going on.

So I shall try another dealer when the time comes and they can have the rest of my business as well.

...and I'm spent.

PS Can't wait till the questionairre comes through.

OK enough ranting - back to work.

Hurrah!!

OK - Uma (my bike) is coming back - and a big thank you to Paul Wakefield who was in at the local dealers and enquired on my behalf.

A bit of humble pie by me as the local dealer is bending over now to deliver and get my first service sorted. So they will get the rest of my business.

Nobody from the dealer I bought it from has bother to call me, period.

I hope my questionairre that I will fill in to BMWES will help to stop any of you guys finding yourselves in the same situation.

Anyway thread over, I look forward to seeing you all out there. :)

Richard, glad you got it sorted. I was a bit surprised about the negative vibes regarding our local dealer, as I've only had good experiences from them.

See you guys soon!
