When my tank is full I can hardly hear it but when it gets down to three bars on the RID its very audible and by the time it is down to 1 bar its really quite loud.
My question is: Is a noisy fuel pump necessarily about to fail? I have ordered a spare one anyway (Audi 80 variety following advice on another thread) but I wondered how urgently I should swap it out. Are there any 'must swap at the same time' items involved??

Thanks, Nick

I'd run from kind of fuel injection system cleaner through the tank as a first measure. I've fixed noisy fuel pumps in the past using this method after another forum member recommended it. Can't remember what I used but it came in a red bottle from halfords - does that help:nenau

When you do finally change the pump, you'll want to change the fuel filter at the same time and maybe consider relocating the fuel filter to the outside of the tank as some have - I didn't bother. I've done this job a couple of times in the past and last time round I paid a local independent to do it as in my opinion it's a royal PITA!!

Good luck:thumby:

Yep, replace the fuel filter first. Most of my noise problems have been because of this. As said, it's best to bring the filter outside the tank to make the following filter replacements easier, also re-tighten all the hose-end clamps inside the tank.
