Nomadic Knights-Himalayas Roof of India

Has any of those booked for next summer's Roof of India been able to secure insurance to cover the areas that the FCO are stating not to visit? :thumby:

You probably won't get insurance. Alex is not riding the route as advertised (see image below) and he probably won't go back to the old route until all the warnings are cleared. I rode the new route in Aug and he said that he believes the new route is better than the old route. So he might not change it back. I wouldn't worry too much right now.

I have just (well a few weeks ago now) got back from the rode to Everest tour and it was great! The first time going from 1500m to a 5200m pass in just one day was a little bit of a shock, even walking slowly, but I didn't have any problems for the rest of the trip. I took a pillion, was the only one to do so. I was nervous about this beforehand but in the end there were only a couple of sections where they had to get off and walk for a few tens of metres. We were incredibly lucky with the weather. Had there been rain or snow I think I would have found it a lot harder. There was plenty enough riding "adventure" for me, I didn't need any more, there was only one day of rest once we got going.

How did you get on with pillion, on the Enfield ?
Enough power - enough room - pillion happiness factor etc ? !

Thinking of heading to Alex’s Grand Canyon trip with the missus on the back in 2027

Alex takes his missus on every trip I think.

There's a rack on the back of the 450 which (in our case anyway) the pillion ends up half sitting on - and it's not comfortable. One of the team had a soft rubber seat pad thing that wasn't perfect, but definitely helped. Up some of the passes the throttle cable got some serious stretching, but in general power wasn't a problem. Could do with just a tad more for some of the overtakes but it wasn't a huge issue.

I think it was one of these, but it had seen better days: https://share.google/M7WLYEoHPJY7Hqz0g

There's not tons of room, but it was manageable: https://immich.plaxy.com/share/7wug36nRJgU0Bt3n5Ut2vPvNqtu63ZOG5qnMkI8P1clGC1EHn0vFJJ_NrCbWf3eEoY0

Couple of questions for someone that has done this trip :

The kit list says to bring a motocross style helmet with goggles.
Is this what everybody wears as was going to take my Shark OXO which is a full flip.

Is a sleeping bag definitely needed or is there bedding when under canvas ?

Ta

Any helmet will do but it can get very dusty up there hence goggles . I always wore a tour cross without goggles and was fine . If you can take a bag it can help at high altitudes. There are normally YAK duvets and blankets , but when it’s that cold you sleep in your gear ! I always take a silk mummy sleeping bag liner as it gives a bit of protection from the previous occupant !! Have fun

Ok ta.

I’ve got a Nishua Carbon Enduro helmet so have ordered some goggles with clear and tinted lenses and will take the visor off and use that .
Will probably get a reasonably priced sleeping bag either in US or from Decathlon in France .

I am away on Saturday to Nepal for the Rode to Everest, I originally was booked on the roof of India in August but couldn't make it so changed the itinerary, Booked flights via Istanbul luckily so no middle east disruption

Safe easy travels hopefully for you 👍

What riding suit / outfit are you going with ?
I’m still undecided what to wear, waterproof adventure type suit or much more comfy and flexible Marrakesh jacket, layers and jeans with my waterproofs.

I am bringing an older textile suit because it can get quite chilly in Tibet that I plan to leave behind at end of the trip and a mesh jacket and armoured jeans for when it's warmer, I have vacuum packed most of the stuff and some waterproofs .

Two suits for a ten day tour? You don’t subscribe to the “light is right” philosophy then? :thumby: :D

I’ve decided it’s the Marrakesh jacket, Linesman pants and a shit load of layers for me.

Hope it’s an epic trip for you 👍

Does your luggage travel in their support vans or do you have to strap it all to the bike each day?

I need to buy a 3L hydration bladder so any recommendations on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
