Hey all did a big ride over the weekend on my r1100gs noticed oil around the filler cap so thought maybe oring but thats fine but where the cap sits into that is a bit springy and the oil is coming out from around the edges, do these unscew of pop out with a flat blade driver? Dont want to break anything plastic that would fall into the head. Cheers

Everything needs a good clean.
I think the surround just pops off, and you can clean under it.
Plus the rubber o ring needs removed and cleaned on the oil cap.

Pieter , had same problem recently
Ordered this and replaced it all…sorted..
Easy to remove and if you worried anything falling into the cylinder head, just take it off…

You can obviously order seals only but I reckon the plastic start getting more brittle over time, after all 20 yrs +

Cheera all thats spot on advice, and great link for the small price ill grab the kit i got a few bits i been meaning to order from motorworks anyway so thats great, yeah mines 30 years old but she is going strong so want to keep any minor leaks at bay 👍

ordered all that, but i was trying to get the lower piece out of the head, does it just pry up? was getting a screwdriver in there did'nt seem to want to shift? cheers

I used a hook like tool and had it out in no time……it has got a rubber seal ring and I assume that could be backed in ….
Maybe just take the cyclinderhead cover off, gives you better access and you could even drive it out with an appropriate tool…

Cheers steptoe, ill give it some welly next time im in there 👍

When replacing use a new sealing/ O ring with a smear of sealant around the cap holder before putting on the O ring, then a smear around the outside of the Obribg, then use a suitable sized socket and knock the cap holder in place.
Leave it for 20 minutes and let it set before starting the engine
