Oil filter disection

1150GS Filters are manufactured by a company called Knecht (Mahle) in Germany for BMW. BMW just rebadge them.
The Knecht part numbers are as follows

Air filter : LX578
Oil Filter: OC91 (OC91D including the O ring)
Fuel Filter: KL145

I just got the local car accessory shop who normally carry Knecht car filters to order me in a few of each from their Kneck distributor. They got them within 2 days and were 40% cheaper than the BMW badged ones.
Worth considering.
I've thrown the boxes away now, but I'm fairly sure that's what Motorworks supplies both for oil and air filters.

Noooo - it cant be so!

am i in the right place?

An interesting thread with oil in it?!

:D

Thank you for your dissertation and dissection. :thumb2

I don't suppose you have the corresponding numbers for the 1200?
I asked my local motor factors this morning if he had Mahle filters. The response was "No, but I have Knecht. They're German too. Wouldn't be surprised if they come out of the same hole in the ground".:blast

so now I can check out his prices and see if that works.
champion filter <€5 yes Euro.
BMW dealer €20, and that's probably before VAT at 21%.
Yes, I know Motorworks is WAY cheaper, but the postage is about £14 to Ireland so you need to be buying quite a bit to make it worthwhile. Better to source locally from a Factors if possible.

Thanks for the info.

the champion oil filters are 5.99 on all halfords shelves

champion c301

been using them for a while now, :thumb2

Ah, got it! I take it Champion may have been dissed on a forum somewhere.

Can't say it has previously worried me but i do have a genuine "Hazet" filter remover. It is tuned to high "E".

Talking about price, during my 18 months as a salesman at a dealer I used to sit approx 20 metres from the parts guy. By the end I used to pick up the phone and order from M/Works 'cos I could get bits cheaper from them!!! Oh, and often things arrived quicker...

Mahle and Knecht are the same company. Look at this link for 1200 info

You do get all the neccessary washers needed with the BMW filter.

for those or you that prefer an alternative to oem, MANN filters are regarded as top notch filters and are available at a reasonable price, "central auto supplies" have shops all over that keep the whole range in stock, oil/air/fuel.
