Operation Emerald Escape

So that's the hotel, very nice indeed I must say, sadly the receptionist was a incredibly miserable old cow.

Maybe she doesn't approved of mixed race things, or maybe she sees a "Brit Bastard' with short hair.......... anyway fuck her, we've had a great day......

We take a walk for about an hour in the lanes around the hotel and get treated to an amazing sunset.

Back to digs, food and I bore Tracy with some NI Troubles history and try and put some context on where we are going tomorrow.

Quite rightly she gives me a look of, "fuck all that Mark, will the weather and roads still be nice ?"

She's quite right of course..........

The North Antrim Coast beckons.

I drift off with memories of Fireblades, RS250s and the like honking round NI with great friends, living for the moment.

I like to think I still do that a bit, maybe just a bit slower and with a few more scars now days.......

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dunno what time you were in Killybegs but just behind you in your 'twat' photo is the bestest fish & chip van in the country - https://www.facebook.com/killybegseafoodshack/

It's been said before - another Tosser punching way above his weight in the looks stakes :P

Just up the hill behind your 'near Letterkenny' hotel you missed this - https://www.discoverireland.ie/donegal/grianan-of-aileach
Interesting wee spot & gorgeous views over Lough Swilly, Lough Foyle & the Inishowen peninsula

Carry on :aidan

Day 7

Into NI and clockwise to Belfast.

Start off with a mega breakfast and leg stretch.

It’s still bright and sunny, and I know the coast highway is coming.

Pop out to check on the bike, even in nice hotels I still get a bit nervous about bike security. Anyway she’s fine. I load her up and we head the 2km to the border......

The reality........

We cross here.

Regarding the border and Brexit, there is absolutely no practical way to police this border.

We tried with men, machine guns, lookout towers etc and didn’t do it.

Anyway. No political bollocks.

Let’s gun it to the coast near Ballykelly, I can bore Tracy with some war stories zzzzzzzz

So onwards in the sunshine to Ballykelly, Limavady, up to Magilligan Point, then Coleraine.

I have a smirk as we honk past Magillagan ranges.

I'm responsible for a lot of lead on the beach there, sadly none whatsoever anywhere near the targets :okay :)

At Coleraine we head North towards Port Stewart and Portrush Vegas.

Again I have a moment when we ride past Barry's amusements.

I used to go there as a treat when I was a kid, on the rare days I wasn't being a little shit no doubt.........

Find a great coffee shop on high street, very friendly locals.

I bore Tracy for 30 mins about how I used to honk around the A2 slight faster than Mick Doohan, she asks why that bloke from Star Trek would be blasting around Northern Ireland............

Coast road now :beerjug:

We spend an amazing 2 hours basically trundling along the coast, with a detour inland to have a look at the high ground west of Cushendall, again an area I know well.

Back onto the coast.

The A2 is a great road, v similar to the coast road in Croatia I rode in July, (honest).

The sea is usually, oooooohh, about 2 feet on your left side.

We have a stop at Balleygalley for a bit of sea air and a brew.

Lovely place and chat with super friendly locals.

(3 weeks later, I am flying the NI Charity Air Ambulance and land in the village on a live job, invited into homes, coffee, cake etc etc, which we take out in the garden to stay safe, weird eh.........)

The coastal road continues and we head all the way down to Whitehead, then Carrick, then onwards to the hotel in Belfast.

Its the Crowne Plaza, I use it for work and its a fab place with the best staff you could wish for.

To add the icing onto a great day, we are upgraded and end up in a suite with living area, etc etc etc. Jurassic Park :)

We have 3 nights here :okay

Bit of food and plan the next day.

Plan A is to take a day off the bike and 'do Belfast'

I'm looking forward to that very much.

A much changed place, for the better.

It strikes me that Tracy has had a total prof here.

Her first bike trip is on amazing roads, in great weather, staying in lovely places, and eating well.

Oh plus she gets to hang out with me all day too ;)

Jammy cow, Ill get her on BelVitas and cheap shit holes next time, proper ABR stuff :)
