Paddy Power bet

. . O.K.for you, Daithi, you never sleep . .
As I said before PJ, I get all the sleep I want 9 to 5, Monday to Friday:D

Sure them Cork hoors never sleep PJ. They'd be afraid of missing something.

:D :D :D
We have to watch out for ye lads in case ye'd organize a sneaky run and we'd
miss it.:D

The top of Minaun, Achill island ;) :thumb
That sounds interesting Fanum, is there a road or track ? :bounce1

This link is very good :)

How many Tossers do you think would go?:nenau

Just found this:
Other peaks on Achill Island include Minaun (466m), which offers the much-photographed view of Keel strand and lake and lower
Achill. Minaun is also accessible via a maintenance road for the transmissions masts located close to the top, hence the number of
photographs taken from this spot! This drive also makes Minaun a very popular spot to visit at dusk on New Year's Eve to watch
the last sunset over Europe.

There's a good tarmac road up to the gravel car park bythe masts, then a rocky section then half a mile to the top over bog, rock and more bog.

There area couple of step-like sections, and more bog.

Did I mention it's quite boggy up there????

After reading about how Jockser and Errol tried to get up there, Tim and I decided we had to have a go before heading home last July.....we got pretty far (MUCH farther than errol :D :dabone ) but could't quite make it :(

We swore we'd be back and on the next Achill island event, start a GSer hill climb competition :thumb

It's do-able, but hard :)

Tim's probably got a few more pics- this is the only one I could find I'm afraid....me pretty near the top .....

Three distillerys run

One of the bike mags had this run some time ago and they failed to complete it, but then they were softies from somewhere that referred to itself as the mainland and isn't.
Anywhere, the run.
The 3 distillerys run tours, for which you need a ticket, You also get a taste, but we wouldn't ( unless you save it for later). The mag ride begin at the Middleton distillery http://www.jamesonwhiskey.com/idl2/visitus/OMDindex.html then on to the Kilbeggan and finishing with the Bushmills - approx 452 km or 285 ml and has to be completed in one day and between opening and closing hours.
It could be done, but would need some organising with tickets being bought in advance for the first and last tour of the day, and for the Kilbeggan. Some local knowledge of the connecting roads would cut some of the travelling time.
But it would still be tight, as we have to keep to the speed limits.

Ahhh Lads, this has to be it, an off road hill climb on GSs :clap (no knobblies :nono )

Joe ?:nenau

:D

If you can get up that hill without knobblies, I'll grant you honorary god status :thumb

It ain't do-able, unless it's at the end of a very long and very hot dry summer.......

You don't get those up that way ;)

I'm going to have to have a go now, the gauntlet is down, I accept your challenge Fanum :eek :clap

Back to topic, The 3 distillerys run sounds good Nud1e :thumb

Yeah I think Fanum challenge is the way to go,
so we just need to arrange a date that will not clash
with other summer runs, what you all think ???
oh yeah and i will be on knobbles :o :o :o

Do we get extra credit for doing it on "Tourances" :D
Sounds like a plan, what time of the year are you thinking of ?

(not that it matters, I won't be missing it )

I've just PM'd Tim to see if he has any more pics of us trying to get up this hill :thumb

BTW, make sure you stop if you get to the top...it's a loooooong way down to the sea :D

I have'nt got many photos, but we did'nt have a run at it. Perhaps after seeing what the top section has to offer there's no reason why a really good blast at it shouldn't succeed:D

here's Bill giving it his all:thumb

Good shot :thumb

You can see the distance you have to cover up from the carpark down there by the masts......and one of the boggy bits :D

There's a steeper section that drops behind that ridge of rock, equally slippery but it's the bog shelves that got us stuck :D

From here it doesn't look too difficult, but once over the rocky section and into the peat there was just no grip:( so I think a fresh knobbly and some speed may see you up:clap

Here's Bill at the top gasping for breath:D but you can see the combination of rocks and slippy grass make it a challenge

So to win, you will need to ride, unassisted to here, say 3 Hail Marys, drink 5 pints of Guiness and try to get back down:D
