Hi Guys,
We are off to visit friends in Stornoway in early April by car this time, we would like to park the car in Ullapool and go across as foot passengers to save a few quid (our friends will pick us up) can anyone recommend a safe place to leave the car for 5 days not too far from the ferry port? I cant see a ferry carpark on their web site.
Cheers,

Andy

There will be somewhere in town that folk leave their cars when going over to Lewis- just ask the Calmac staff..
BTW wheel clamping and other un civilised behavior is illegal in Scotland so it is safe to leave your car parked sensibly on the street.

Providing you're sensible and don't leave your car somewhere where it will annoy the natives you should be fine. I don't know if you've been to Ullapool before or not, but it's only a very small place that gets a lot of visitors. So think carefully about where you put it.

Apart from that you should be fine - car crime doesn't really happen that often.

Ullapool ferry car park is tiny. No way you can park there.
Like the others said. Park anywhere using common sense and consideration and it'll be fine.

Theres the main car park in the centre of the village (up Quay Street and down Latheron Lane) just next to Tescos -which was Morrisons as the man said. Free parking and safe as houses. 5 mins from the Ferry .

Could I suggest that if you are leaving your car for 5 days then let the local police know incase you spark a large and unrequired search

Is there not something about most large store car parks having signs that say you have 2 hours free parking, and then you "could/would" be charged for continuing to occupy space in their car park?
I'm aware our local Morrisons has such. The nearest Asda and Tesco (18 miles away) also have such limitations in place.
Depending on what the car parking is outside the police station, and after saying to them why your car will be there for a period of time without moving, would it not be possible to leave it there?
I will bow:bow to the superior knowledge of wct on this though...

sorry if not explained clearly....... it's the main village car park situated next to Tesco's not Tesco's car park. Good idea about letting polis know, though lots of folk leave their vehicles for a couple of weeks when going to the islands. Not much parking outside police station though- that would really p*ss them off!:D
