Pilot Road 4 & Punctures?

Fitted PR4s last May and love the tyre but I have just suffered my second puncture in the the rear tyre - strange as I never had a puncture in the many years Inhave been riding! Is it just bad luck or are the PR4s more susceptible to punctures - anyone else suffering more than usual? Tyre pressures are 36 & 42 - both punctures on the rear tyre centreline.

Funnily enough, I've had a similar experience. Ridden for many years without too many punctures and 2 in one year after fitting new PR4's. Maybe coincidence, but both mine also rear centreline.

Just had my first on a PR4 Rear. Dead centre at an angle through the mid line. Un repairable according to tyre supplier as hole edges too jagged. But that may have been us GS riders fitting and refitting plugs. A piece of glass went through it. Only done 3500 miles on it! Have had punctures on the conti trails but that was towards the end of the tyre's life in both cases. Not sure Ill be having PR4 again. When I looked at the tyre it was rather badly cut up in other places too.

They are prone to punctures ! the way the sipes are seems to suck in any old bit of detritus.

They are a great tyre but i had several punctures when using them

I fancy pair of these for my gs,I had pr4 road pilots on my previous bike,a cbf 1000 fa for loads o'miles never a problem or puncture,done 2000 miles on my gs still sporting anakees,front wheel puncture.so feck knows!

JOnly done 3500 miles on it! Have had punctures on the conti trails but that was towards the end of the tyre's life in both cases.

My first PR4 Trail was worn out at 3500 miles and the GT on it now is about 2/3 worn at that mileage. No punctures on either so far

Worth carrying a plug repair kit on the bike no matter what tyre fitted.

Typical find this out now having just fitted a set or PR4 trails , the Anakees were as bad the first rear one was scrap at 140 odd miles with a bolt through the tread and into the side wall, the second rear got a similar puncture at just under 1000 miles which ripped an elongated hole in the tread near the sidewall (again another rusty bolt) and as I was going away for two foreign trips it was replaced .

Spent more on tyres last year than fuel

yep never had punture on my previous tourances but my last 2 sets of pr4 have had 3,repaired them all with rats tails though till they wore out.

Yes they are prone to punctures and if you look at where the biggest sipes run you can see why. I had them on my old bike and got a puncture from the stones they make the roads out of here.

So far I have never punctured a front tyre (thats done it) all my punctures in recent years have happened on virtually new tyres

Someone told me the front wheel usually hits the object that points it to the ideal position to puncture the back wheel, no idea if thats complete tosh or based on science

When I changed my worn out PR4's I was surprised how flimsy they were compared to the new Avon Trail Riders going on. I did enjoy the PR4's in the Alps but also had a puncture from a small slither of Flint

Michelin don't use steel belting in their bike tyres.

Me too. I have slow puncture in both tyres. Never ha d this problem before , is it just coincidence.? Obviously not judging from other people's experience I won't have them again

Not a hell of a lot of options though if you are looking for regular street tyres.

As they don't have steel belts they can be repaird but as long as the hole is no more than 5mm across and not elongated. No punctures for years on sports bikes then MPR3 rear punctured on Multistrada 1200 with only 100 miles of use on it (tyre)!! None yet with GS running MPR4's.
Seems they do like getting let down

Ive had a PR4 Trail on my rear for a couple of thousand miles or so, I'm noticing a decrease in tyre pressure over recent days, even had the warning display on my dash. Cant find anything in the tyre but maybe I need a closer look? Never realised there was an issue with these tyres until now.

Pilot Road 4 & Punctures?

Hi guys, I've done about 34,000 miles in the past 2 years with about 28k of that on PR4's (all be it on a Triumph Explorer - about to be traded in for the GS).

I'm on my 3rd or 4th set of PR4's and I've had 1 puncture. It was a screw on the rear tyre, dead centre. I plugged it and still put another 3000 miles on it before replacing the tyre.

I've got nothing but praise for these tyres and as soon as my new GS requires a new set of tread, they'll be the 1st choice on my list!

Had a similar puncture on my rear PR4 last year, a headless 20mm nail was buried in the tread and took a bit of finding as only a small 5mm cut was visible. Touch wood, only one with these tyres.
