Just last week I changed a set of PR4's which had about 9000+ miles on them.
I could literally push the center tread area almost all the way into the center of the rim with just my thumb pressure, that's how soft this tire becomes with wear.
That pretty much explains why this tire handles so good and is so popular. It's a soft tire,so what do you expect. Metzlers Z-3's and 6's were also like this.
After those,I did a set of Conti Trail Attacks 2's. Again high mileage, with 11,500 miles on them, probably could'a gone another 1000 miles. This tire with the high mileage was still very stiff.
Lotsa' Folks like this tire very much,....but comment mostly on its tire life longevity instead of its handling.
Metzler Tourances (originals not *II's or Next*)also seemed have the same qualitys and characteristics.
Having done many sets of Michelin Anakee III's for myself and others,it is also a very popular tire here State side.
Unfortunately for me and my Mich 3's,I ended up with a nail 300 miles after the purchase of my new to me '15 Adventure that came with them(I did have a thread with photos posted here last year when it happened) and my repair. Now at 7500+ miles, and still going strong.
So punctures/injurys can happen to anybody, anytime.
To prove one tire is more susceptible than another, one would have to be more scientific about it. Something I ain't!
So......Not to take away from the posters original thread........
I always say and believe that the riders style and environment should dictate what tires he should use. And there's always some sorta trade off with handling and longevity.
The perfect tire??? I'm still waiting......and trying other brands.
