Pinking ?

I have been in the Picos and Pyrenees since Saturday and a couple of times when at the higher altitudes heard a brief tinkling sound, could it be the engine is running to lean ?

Or my vivid imagination?

It's a 2016 R1200GSA TE

Running lean with standard ( Read piss poor) fueling and altitude

I doubt its your imagination

I think there's a barometer built into the control unit to make adjustments for altitude and a knock sensor to listen for the knock
But some poor fuel could pink I suppose
