I have noticed my 2018 GS1200 has started pinking when accelerating in 5th or 6th - its only done 16000.
Any advice

What are knock sensors ?
If i accelerate in 5th or 6th then the pinking starts and stops if i pull back on the throttle

Are you lugging it and fearful of getting the revs near the redline?

You say it's 'pinking' but you do not know what a knock sensor is?

Has any work been done on bike? Air filter maybe? Anything on the intake side of the engine? If it’s getting air in where it shouldn’t it could be running lean. At 16,000 miles it probably didn’t need plugs but if they have been changed for the wrong grade it could cause your problems. Your first thing would be fuel. Try a different grade. JJH

Thanks for your patronising comments I have ridden and driven for over 40 years, I can assure you that I know what pinking is, but I might not always know what the cause is.
Overheating.
Incorrect fuel/air ratio
Incorrect timing.
Any combination of the above.

Try taking you bike to an authorised BMW dealer -that's my advice.

P.S. knock sensors have been around since the 70s, hence my comment.

P.P.S I've been riding 50+years :)

Add “needs a decoke” and “replace spark plugs”

Would the exhaust flap thing make it sound like its pinking?
