Flipfly, I've read your posts and to a point agree with some of what you have said but at the end of the day the 'pointless' electronic aids BMW have the 'ability' to fit to the WC, are only on the options list.. You don't have to have them. If you are like the Engineer, who for all the right reasons wants a bike to be basic or like me and a few others, want a few bells and whistles. We can have them.
I'm not sure exactly how many variants or permeations there are of the bike ( apart from the 3 stock versions + the base and options)
Could we get that from Honda, Yamaha, Guzzi or Ducati etc etc..probably not.
So is your post.... Pointless ?
Just my 2p!
er, they don't![]()
Hahaha. Nice one JB. Wouldn't be the first time I'd been called that!!!
So...... You'll never buy one........ ?

The post isn't pointless is it?
I wasn't aware that they were options at the time of the post, I do now, so I'm wiser.
Also the statement still has merit and maybe potential owners will be more likely to question the need for all these rider aids and whether they are going to improve or worsen the riding experience for them.
So I disagree that the post is pointless![]()

Sorry couldn't resist
Never say, never
Actually I'd love to try a Basic bike, just to see how it rides
But modes, turn me off...............![]()
Just leave it in one mode and cover the button up with gaffa tape or something and pretend it's not there.... voila, a new LC with just one mode.... Actually I'd love to try a Basic bike, just to see how it rides

Sadly I've never have owned an 1150.....one day, I may get the chance!!![]()

If you can't find a dealer with a base model - try a TE in enduro mode!

)Ye Gods, are we really still banging on about the modes.
I think we have all got the message pages back- some love it and some don't.
Those that haven't tested the bike with the modes, then do so, make up your mind, order what suits you best.......The End! (altough somehow I think this will run and run..)

You're saying that if you don't have all the gizmo's you can't ride in the rain, go further than a short ride (how far would that be - 50 miles?) and only ride on A roads?
No
Your bike...........
Then you'd be a Tosser riding around on a CNUT
I wouldn't ever buy a WC GS

it's not an enduro bike or even a sports bike though, is it?![]()
isn't it ?
Ahh, but there in lies another issue. As I have said earlier, my understanding is that enduro mode cuts the power. Now enduro plug may give full power, but with the enduro modes more natural/connected throttle characteristics, but I am still trying to fathom it out. How is the standard bike configured? Is it dynamic throttle/road throttle/enduro throttle? nobody seems to know
I understand the enduro model comes with all the modes the TE comes with. If that is the case then I'm not convinced it's any different to the bike I road bar a few farkles and wire wheels and possibly standard shock suspension.
For me personally to consider a WC I would want Enduro throttle with full power, standard shocks and no traction control.
The difficulty with all the electrics is it's hard to know what gives what etc. How does a standard bike feel with no modes etc. No way of finding out because the dealers make more money selling all the gubbins.
I'm sure somebody will soon be able to programme the bike to your exact liking. Then and only then will the WC be the bike it should be imho.
I'm not sure where you are getting this cut in power, its not a naff'in KTM - all the modes are full power 125bhp
My guess is, the base model is probably set in Road Mode. But the throttle action in enduro mode and road is about the same.
My understanding is the mode sets the damping, throttle response and level of traction control the ESA sets the pre-load. So buy the base model, or the enduro model ... Simples !

How ever did anyone get further than Tesco's ten years ago? The gizmo's might add convenience but you can't possibly believe they make things possible that you can't do without them? And when they break, which is inevitable at some point, you have an expensive bill and possibly roadside assist to consider - thats my only concern.
