I just had this email forwarded to me by a friend who's mate sent it to him;

"Beware the A49...

We have been riding there over the last few weeks and have noticed a heavy police presence. Not least on Saturday when we got tugged.
We all managed to obtain a section 59 warning ticket for anti-social behaviour and two of us got £60 fines for none standard plates, one got £30 fine for cans.
The copper explained that they were targeting bikes on the A49 due to a high level of accidents.

The car was an unmarked Ford Mondeo, 09 Ghia...
Just as well he did not have any speed equipment or cameras on board.

Martin."

I can't comment on how they were riding but knowing the source of the mail they are not certainly not youngsters and some may possibly be on GSs :P

So far as I am concerned if you have a dodgy plate or pipe then you can't complain if you get nicked ( which, may I point out, the author does not ) , however the seemingly blanket issuing of a section 59 ASBO to all concerned is a bit of a worry. I bet very few car drivers ever get them

I think this is especially of concern for those who ride in groups and like to make 'good progress'. The author does imply that they were probably exceeding the speed limit. ;)

Anyway, go careful on the A49 , especially as most of it is now a 50 limit :(

Went from Warrington down the A49 / A41 to Redditch and back last week but luckily had no problem.

- unless there's something in the post to me still....

Un marked dark blue Vectra was pulling someone yesterday afternoon near Beeston...

be carefull out there peeps...

it's the "ASBO" thing that bothers me...

do they throw them at nobhead CORSA drivers willy-nilly too?

we all know the answer to that one!

can you fight getting an ASBO in court? or is it a police free for all?

hm

Yep, cause that'll stop the nobbers from killing themselves :blast:blast:blast:blast

I agree with this action completely (it keeps em off the wrexham road :D:D).

If you are going to Wrexham from Nantwich its far better to take the A525 and go the long way round ..........the bit between Natwich and Whitchurch in particular is so much fun :thumb

You could try but I wouldn't fancy your chances. Like scamera convictions I think you are really just supposed to bend over and take it up the arse whether you are guilty or not

a49

Hm' when I was in the rozzers and doing my advanced car/bike tests, back in the late 70's, the A49 from Warrington to Craven Arms was one of the "test routes" If you, 1. Could not lose the chase car you were not trying hard enough. 2. You were expected to achieve an average speed over the route, which we never knew but was somewhere over 60mph, if you did not do it, it was a fail!
I remember the Ch examiner asking me about going through gaps at 120mph+ or what I would do if a horse jumped out on me. a. No problem, b. Probably hit it but what horse are you talking about?

Without sounding hypocritical or promoting the IAM, if you want to be left alone, do an advanced riding course. If you are on the right lines the following/observing copper thinks you are one of "them", If its 30, 40 or 50 DO IT, it makes you an easy target if you screw it on, if it has the old white sign with a black bar diagonally across it most coppers take it as ride it fast but do it right!

The rozzers aren't to bothered about cans and plates , but if you have been riding like a t*at for x number of miles with a loud can, then you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to invite a tug do you? Simples! They can hear you from miles way! Be stealthy, take good lines, be quiet , its worked for me for the last 40 years! :beerjug:

Shame it doesn`t happen more often.

Then the roads may gradually become clear of the sadly increasing number of weekend bike riding knobber.

They`ve got no cause for complaint....riding on typical 'brain dead' weekend A-roads in a group,on illegal bikes, and by their own inferrence busting the speed limits. Ho hum.
Rest assured the ASBO orders weren`t issued glibly or blanket style for no real reason...they`ll have been observed for some distance and maybe over a succession of outings (ever wondered why yer number plate is so interesting to cops at 'biker meets') prior to getting them.

They`re not innocent victims, they`re part of the increasing number of feckers that sometimes make me embarrassed to be a biker and who are doing irrepairable damage to a lifestyle and pastime that I and many other dedicated riders hold very dearly.

Before you start a knee jerk slagging of me for what I`ve said, just think back to how many fecking stupid examples of dangerous riding you see when you`re out and about...or how many grossly offensive and 'anti social' arrivals/departures by bunches of weekend wannabees you`ve witnessed...and how many dodgy bikes you`ve seen which are just screaming out for police attention.

Police presence,you say ?

Bring it on,I say.

All well and good until they decide to give you an ASBO 'cause they feel like it.

ASBO's weren't designed for motoring offences - There's plenty of laws for small plates and speeding.

It's an abuse of power and preys on the easy to persecute.

your nobody unless you have got either a section 59 or a ASBO:D plus a few pints on your lience

drive safe and with in the LAW then you should have no issuess:comfort

blah bla h blah

"Should" being the operative word....

:comfort

too true, i never been stopped since i was 15, for been with-in the law:)

oh when i was 15 in year of our lord 1981 i was at that time pushing a bike along the pathment,

True but ASBO`s were brought in for motoring offences due to the amount of weekend and midweek evening pricks doing 'stunts' on public roads.
You know...wheelies up and down past the pub, rolling burnouts and killswitch backfires, etc etc...often well within sight and earshot of residents.
I think the 'spectator' death at the Waterman was the turning point in the decision.

It's an abuse of power and preys on the easy to persecute.

In the cases mentioned above,it`s not and it doesn`t.

If it gets rid of the summertime thrill seekers and the weekend wannabees then here`s to more of it happening.

Yeah...It's all good until it comes down on you: The conditions of these ASBOs often mean if you breach the terms, they can confiscate the bike.
It was intended for yoofs terrorising estates on mini-motos and stolen "field bikes"....

I haven't been stopped for years either, but can see how an over-zealously issued ASBO could really feck one up.

It's not an ASBO, it's a Section 59, Police Reform Act 2002, notice.

I bow to your superior knowledge.... but why not just deal with specific offences?

Speeding, small plates, careless driving (if appropriate) ...?

I'm not spoiling for a fight, but we (road-users) seem very easy to extract penalties from, because we are all documented and otherwise well behaved.

:nenau

PS: What is a "Section 59, Police Reform Act 2002, notice"...and how does it affect the recipient?

I agree with Tarka. If you want to have a demonstration of what sort of twats are out there at the moment, come and sit outside my workshop on a sunny thursday evening when all the pillocks are going to the stormy pectral, and listen to them all.It doesn't want a copper there,it wants a piano wire across the road.

Strange that they never do it when it's raining.I wonder why that is then:augie

Before you start a knee jerk slagging of me for what I`ve said,

Which, from what i read, was a Knee Jerk Assumption that the Guys that Rushy mentioned were "Weekend Wannabee's" etc.

I work Tues to Sat,05.00 till 18.00/20.00 so Sunday and Monday are the Days i can Ride. Does this mean that in TarkaWorld i'm not allowed to Ride because i choose not to ride 7 X 52 ?

As an LGV Driver i regularly see Piss Poor Standards of Driving by Cyclists,Bikes,Cars,Vans,Buses,Trucks etc.Basically anything with Wheels. Where does your Axe stop Swinging ?

Called at the Stormy Pectral last Thursday evening on my way home from Redditch.

It was about half nine and there was hardly anyone there. Even the chippy van was leaving as I arrived.
