:toungincheekAll the negative stuff on the 650 & 800 GS thread seems to takin over lately:augie

So lets have just a positive thread just for the prospective buyers of the GREAT 650 - 800 twins:)

Ok my 2 pence worth.

Great lookin bike:drool

Smooth gearbox and good MPG

Good off road but its no moto x or HP2 it just does the job ok and road holding is good too. It will keep up with 600 crutch rockets no probs EVEN with that 21" front wheel.

The tyre choices are getting better too so be anuff to suit everyones taste.

Just a bloody good bike. :thumb

I can go on but give someone else a go:blagblah

No Negatives please

At the beginning of my eight-page letter of complaint to BMW :( I started off by writing,

"The F650GS is potentially the most enjoyable bike I have ever owned; it is agile and responsive, has a turbine-smooth engine, slick gearchange and a beautiful rorty-sounding exhaust, coupled with exceptional fuel economy. It’s an all-rounder that is equally at home on European motorways and African gravel roads. However... "

Despite all the problems I've experienced the F650GS is my ride of choice--in just over a year of ownership I've put 21500 miles on the F650GS and probably only 1500 miles on my R1200GSA (mainly when the F650GS has been broken down :augie).

it's a Bike i'm really curious about / want a long go on one / would consider a fresh second hand one.

not high praise maybe but,

i've never had an even nearly new Bike / am Luddite and proud / have an Airhead and a (love of my life :P) Guzzi.

took a lot to shift my mind in this direction, so it must be a good 'un. :D

i have done just over 18k on mine in just over a year, and this is solely for recreational purposes. I've almost ridden it off a cliff, intentionally, owing to its many teething problems. That said, i will ride this bike into the ground, because it does everything well. it looks brilliant, and rides the north coast of ireland twisties with a poise that surpasses my ability. it is equally at home off-road with my one complaint in this area being the snatchy throttle in first gear, which is not a fault in the boxers. I've toured 2-up with luggage that i wouldn't normally bring on a big overland trip, and it performed faultlessly. in short, is there another bike on the market i'd swap for? the answer is a resounding 'no'!

No negatives .... 26,000 miles on mine now and I'm as happy as a kid in a sweet shop :)

Had issues, but they've been sorted straight away so nooo probs there then :thumb

The 650/800 twins are the least problematic bike going through the dealer workshops at the moment ;)

Been let down at the side of the road once with a broken chain, but then who hasn't (yet)

They quite simply do what it says on the tin :thumb

:beerjug:

I certainly don't see as many posts about breakdown as the 1200 seems to get. Haven't read of many faults on these bar those fixed under recall.

I think mine is fab. :)

8k since september, no chain problems, no radiator hose problems in fact the only problem was changing the tyres at 7k, I could have probably squeezed a bit more out of them. top bike:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

:bow BMW have made a great bike (F800GS), so don't knock it till you have a few thou miles on the clock.

Mine is the F800GS in go fast silver (ish), which I've had since April 09.

2.5 k on the clock and would have had a good 1k more had I not been off sick for 5 weeks in May - June:(

I've had several bikes in my time and the F800GS is the best all round bike, that will have you doing things you would have never considered on a sports bike (such as real back road scratching) and other things you would not have thought possible on a tourer (such as off roading and having such a great view from the upright riding position)

I obsever for IAM and Bike Safe and the F800GS makes my job so much easier than before on my Fazer.:thumb2

I'm so looking forward to a planned trip to Europe in August, where were going to Spa and the Ring, to name but a few of the rides we will be going on. The GS will I'm sure be a fantastic platform to do this and is already proving a capable allrounder. + it will help me get to the bar on time:beer:

If there are problems, well hay ho, such is life, nothing is 100%

Regards

Mark

The F650GS is potentially the most enjoyable bike I have ever owned; it is agile and responsive, has a turbine-smooth engine, slick gearchange and a beautiful rorty-sounding exhaust, coupled with exceptional fuel economy. Couldn't agree more with Tim's opening lines (though I've not tried the gravel roads). I traded down from a 1200 GS to the 650 due to advancing years and the increasing difficulty of shoving the 1200 around on the drive and picking it up after losing my footing. The 650 is brilliant - I'm approaching 60 and really making an effort to take things more steadily ... but the back tyre is still worn to the very edge, which boosts my street cred amongst the biking fraternity at work but is actually beginning to worry me!
My only gripe is the lack of rear view in the original "designer" mirrors - simply sorted with a pair from the 1200 GS, which slot straight into the existing mounts.

It's a great bike.

I have just had a biking/climbing holiday and covered 3500 miles in 12 days on the 800,all weathers, all conditions and its been a dream, really cannot complain.Smooth, exciting, comfy and it makes you want to keep going and see more of the coutry your in,what else can do that!Ok apart from a swedish blonde enticing you!

the only thing I dont like is the Trax panniers I like the Trax pannier rack just not the panniers :D

Geraldine

You all must know my opinion by now...I have a F650GS, Lowered Suspension in go faster red called Geraldine. She is fab-tastic. Easy to throw around the corners, i actually lean that bike more than i ever did on my old (and hated) SV650.

She's got personality, comes with a great line of matching accessories (its a girl thing), she has a great big bottom for keeping all my luggage on and occasionally slips out a couple of farts (don't we all).

As well as exploring on longer trips i now commute rain or shine....i've even been known to take the long way round to work (9 miles instead of 8)

She's great and the best bike i have ever owned/riden.
