Hi folks!

If I had more time, I'd trawl through the forum for answers to this but any answers, ideas, or pointing me in the right direction would help.

I was riding my 58 plate GSA back home on the M180 today. As I came into Grimsby, I noticed that the clutch lever needed to be pulled right back before the clutch operated, even though it had been just fine earlier on the ride.

However, after changing gear and operating the clutch lever a few times, all seemed OK again, and it seems fine right now. No leaking is apparent from the master or slave cylinders, and the fluid level in the clutch fluid reservoir is just fine as well.

Is this just a one off or is this evidence of an evolving problem? Astle in Grimsby are going to take a look at it when it has the first service just after Easter, before Mrs J and I go off to Spain. They thought from my description over the phone that it was unlikely there was a problem but I wondered if anyone here knew more about this.

I just want to be sure the bike is tippity-top before we leave for Portsmouth!

Thanks very much!

J

Only thing I know to do is check the hand-guard isn't touching the clutch lever, however slightly.

Sorry if I'm teaching me granny to suck eggs.

Jonathan, over the last couple of days on this site there have been 2 people complaining of those symptons. Do a search.

I had a slipping clutch twice on my 1200 in the past 5 years, both times a simple fix.

First time was due to a rise in the fluid level of the reservoir as the clutch plate bedded-in with use. As the clutch wears the fluid level rises not falls. When the reservoir was full the fluid had nowhere to go so the clutch action stayed on and it slipped under heavy throttle. After draining a little fluid from the reservoir with a syringe it was fine again. No doubt you have a spare small plastic syringe at work?

Last weekend it slipped under heavy throttle again due to the end of the clutch lever just touching inside the handguard (it doesn't take much). Not good for overtakes !!!

A simple tweak and tighten of the handguard/bar end and all is well again.

Hello,
yep that's me who posted the same issue a few days ago. It's booked in to the dealer to check out. But I agree with your concerns you do not want this to happen abroad, which mine did. To make it home from ( France) from the euro tunnel to dartford tunnel, which is a pretty much top gear run of 40mins. I knew I would get problems as I had been expericing on the long runs in France. So every 10 miles or so I came of the gas dropped a gear , then back on the gas up a gear. Just to make sure the clutch was operating. Phew... it got me home

Be sure to post what the dealer does as I will .
