Oh well they are sort of parallel
with cyls not directly opposite each other, so the engine always will vibe a bit.

Nice post Cocker I can almost echo your experience. I purchased my 2012 this January with 115 miles. The previous owner said he had a "fuel pump recall" done which I assume is the controller? Anyway I'm at 5,300 miles now and just replaced the EXP's with Tourances. The bike has run and performed perfectly and never been back to a dealer since I've had it.
The huge majority of 1200 owners enjoy trouble free riding and it's only those with an issue who complain. They are pretty reliable bikes for the most part and as long as you know the quirks and what to look for, you will be OK.
People like to make huge issues of things and although they do have their own set of things that may go wrong, most are serenely bringing smiles to peoples faces every day
Mines just gone through 93k and on it's 3rd Alaska run in 12 months and it just gets better
