My wife's just returned our 2nd and 3rd S5 bluetooth helmets. Wouldn't pair with each other or with mobiles, either those that BMW recommended or more recent models.

My first helmet, a Christmas present, wouldn't pair with my phone either. The dealers who supplied them took them back and refunded without debate but can't guarantee that the next ones will be any better.

I have a friend who bought his just after my first, this pairs with his phone and a bluetooth iPaq he's got, hasn't had a chance to check it with any helmets as we haven't managed to get hold of another that works!

Anybody else shelled out £525 for BMW's latest exercise in crap quality control, or even bought a good one?

I think there are two versions of Bluetooth and they are not compatible. So if your phone is version 1 and the helmet version 2, they will never `talk` to each other. I'm not a tecchie so forgive my crude explanation but surely the BMW dealers should know all this and advise accordingly.

OK, doesn't seem to have attracted a great deal of interest but, in the spirit of fairness to BMW, the helmets weren't at fault, it was mine and my neighbours' wi-fi networks. The helmets won't pair if they're in the range of a computer wi-fi network, and communication is pretty ropey if you drive back into range paired up.

Doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere by BMW, helmets are actually bloody good when working, given an audible severe bollocking by SWMBO at 110, previously only rabbit-punched in the kidneys!
