I have to say that my bike has only 450 miles without any problems so far; so I voted "no problems" but in order to be accurate I believe that this poll should be linked to the mileage of each bike as a new bike should normally have less problems than an older one...

cross my finger to stay as long as possible in the "no problems"...

great bike anyway, like good wine getting better each day

5,900 miles

and it only has one major problem...its sooo much bloody fun to ride, it puts a smile on my face every time i ride it, i just don't have enough time to do more miles, every ride is fun, be it commute, a souless run on the motorway, or blasting down the back lanes :D:D

Before I owned it, rear wheel bearing failure at 2500mls.

Since I owned it following the replacement by BMW a further 7500mls with no actual problems.

The high beam swith was 'sensitive' but functional anddidn't turn off or anything just not positive. Dealer (Picocks) replaced anyway.

Love it, best bike I've ever had and I've had ALOT!!

Just wish it had a tad more range on the tank, if they'd left those 2 litres in....

20k miles. Dip beam melted some plastic where it plugs in. Dealer replaced harness and everthing related to the lights at no charge. All else has been perfect.:beerjug:

2,300 miles, no snags at all. First BMW after 25 years of Jap sports bikes. Love it.

When I started the poll back in January I had done 3k miles with no problems. At around 4k the ignition began turnng itself back on after I turned it off and removed the key. Fault was rectified by Wollastons after a week of investigation. Obviously I can't now change my vote in the poll but, if I could, I would class it as a minor fault.

1. 1000 miles engine management fault light illuminated for no reason and was cleared by dealer.
2. 6500 miles final drive replaced under warranty.

The only new bike I've purchased that wasn't Japanese(10+), and the only one that's required warranty work. Although, I was never under any illusion that BMs are more reliable than their oriental counter parts, because generally the're not.

Its also the bike that I've most enjoyed riding and will be very likely to replace it with a similar BMW when the time comes.

Dealership (Clarks of Rednal) has also been first class.

7890 mls on the clock since August 2004. Not a single problem.

Mine.. 3,500 miles no problems at all.

Georgia's..
Balancer shaft oil seal within 1st 45miles.. Bike off road for 1 month waiting for new seal.
Main beam switch replaced at 6,000 miles.
Poor/lumpy low speed running.. cured at 6,000 mile service.
Drive shaft gaiter ripped (reason unknown) 8,500 miles.
New final drive at 10,500 miles.
Top Box moves on Base plate.. not yet resolved.

9000 miles since August 2004 and not a single problem or minor glitch.

What is missing from this poll is the bike age... Mine is a sept 04.

I had 2 minor issues :
- a red triangle that appeared all the time for no good reason . Once the bike firmware was cleared and replaced with a newer version, the problem simply disappeared.
- front wheel rim paint was flaking. They changed the rim.

An excellent bike, the best I have ever had.

I voted "no problems" but after the <enter> button I realised I forgot one thing:

Left side panel flew off during a ride at speed ( about 80mph). It was repaired, and the defect at hand improved by de dealer (front plastic attachement is now replaced by the same metal attachements as the two at the back).

So it would be a minor problem.
But I allready forgot about it: So no problem!

mine has 10,000mi on, and i have since April 04, therefore it is from the first production build.

I had the fuel pump controller failure at 6000mi, but my major problem was with the bike controllers that would not turn themselves off with key off. After draining 3 batteries in 6 month, the main controller was replaced and the 3 other on board computers were reprogrammed.
The bike charging system is not suitable for my winter riding habits (2 x 12mi/25min daily to/from work), and it was very hard getting the bike started in temperatures below -10[c]. It is good that winter is over...
Minor problems were: a) loosing one of the front screws holding the screen around 1,000mi. b) The bolt holding the center stand on the right hand side broke down at about 9,200mi (i guess the cold was too much for it to handle)

Lousy customer service by BMW of North America.

Having said all that, it is a great bike, and i enjoy it far more than any of my previously owned (8) bikes. In the future, when its time to get a new one, i'll probably go again with the latest available version of this bike.

Enjoy spring rides!
