I love my R 1200 GS TE 2013 and will most likely continue to do so, however after doing a mere 4k miles in 12 months I have had to visit my local dealer 5 or 6 times, all relating to product malfunction issues and all parts were replaced under warranty.

The latest problem I had was that the air manifold came off and had to call the breakdown service to pick me up.

So far the panniers, the left hand side switches and GPS wheel, the clutch cable, two sets of break-pads, right hand side air manifold have all been replaced.

I also had what BMW calls a 'product enhancement', which involves adding some kind of rubber washer.

All these malfunctions are making me feel insecure when thinking about a long trip, since all my journeys have been local. Also I am beginning to accept that the clunks and gear box noises when changing gear are not quite right either. Until now I have been denying this fact to myself.

I still like my GS but at the same time I'm worried about the amount of issues raised so far and I don't really want to regret my decision of purchasing the first LC model.

I hope that I'm not putting off anyone from buying a new GS, the experience is fantastic, the bike is incredible despite the problems. Oh and the customer service has been great, my local dealer is excellent.

I know the feeling. I had six minor but annoying issues with my 2013 GS LC, so I chopped it in for a 2014 GSA instead. I only have one issue with the GSA, which is related to the quickshifter, in all other respects it's been fine (so far...).

The clutch cable was simply rusty from week 1 which was odd

Gosh, that looks like a part made out of wood! (I thought they did that only on Rolls and Bentley's)

Step away from the Motorcycle.......step away, turn around slowly and back away.......:augie

I think we all knew he had made a mistake. Too many on here are quick to jump on others wrong posting rather than add anything constructive to a thread. You must be very insecure in yourself to have to constantly highlight other peoples mistakes :rob

I take it you saw nothing funny in the post. The piss taking was just a bit of friendly banter, and no hose's were harmed in this process.

You're right, I don't. If anything it would be riding amongst you but not for long and most likely you wouldn't be able to keep up with my pace.

Once, a wise young guy said to me 'if you don't have anything positive to say, then it's best not to say anything'

I believe this to be still correct to this day.. (I thought I may share that information with some of you now) It's served me well.!

So you never go to the doctor and tell him you're not feeling well for instance then?
