I have V6,V7 installed on my quest1 and ordered what I thought might be a free upgrade V9 from Garmin. When I go into my account, it shows

Our records indicate that you have the following regions unlocked for your Quest, Dlx, UK & Ireland:

GPS Unit: Quest, Dlx, UK & Ireland, S/N 12345678
MS Product: City Navigator Europe 2009 Deluxe DVD
Date Original Redeemed: 09/01/2005
Update Release Date: 09/01/2008

Region Action
ECS-REGALL-4 Unlock Update

If I chose the all regions, you have to pay for the unlock code

Should I have to pay for an unlock code for UK and Ireland?

I have tried putting in my original V6 unlock code to no avail.

I'm new to all this jigery pokery :)

p.s. I know I can contact garmin but just thought someone knows already

Yes, it's not a free upgrade.

The code you have is for the V6 version and won't unlock anything else....it's like buying a car 4 years ago and expecting the key to work in a brand new one sitting in a dealer's forecourt now.

It's a brand new product and you would only have got it free if you'd bought a new unit fairly close to its release date ( I think it used to be within a year)

I've also got an idea that v9 isn't any good for a Quest, but you'd need to check the Garmin website for the release details on V9 to check that.

My Quest was slow with V9

I posted on this subject elsewhere in the forum a while back, but just to reiterate my own experience with V9 on a Quest, the recalc times became so slow (something like a minute on a 200 mile route) that I literally had to stop riding and let it recalculate, or else by the time it did so I wasn't where it thought I was and it started again, ending up in a permanent loop of recalc's. I went back to V7 and it was ok. It might have been related to my particular unit but whatever the reason, it was very frustrating.

Mmmmh, Perhaps I won't bother then. Thanks for advice.

Is V9 the same as City Navigator Europe 2009? The only reason I'm asking is talking to Garmin they state there is no unlock code for V9 and the latest release and final release for the quest 1 is 2009, which you obviously have to pay for to get an unlock code.

Somewhere on the forum is a list of CN versions but looking at my old disks its: Cn V9 then Cn2008 then Cn2009 and the latest one is Cn 2010,the latter is NT format only so won't run on a Quest .
Garmin don't useually supply unlock codes for a version once a suitable new one has been released.
