Had been telling my mate to get himself down to PCWorld to buy one of the bargain Quests for £199 before they were all gone.... so he went today. Leicester City and Leicester Fosse park branches had one each.... but they're now only £149! Absolute giveaway.

He bought the one from the City branch, so there's one left at Fosse park.

Bargain!

Well done Rob, glad a GSer got it!

Can't believe they've dropped the price again, cos I was already over the moon that I'd got one for £199!

Also hopefully going to get the free City Select update to V8.00 when it's available, which is soon I believe.

Got the last one at PC World High Wycombe this afternoon. Or rather SWMBO got it for my Christmas present :D She wouldn't let me play with it straight away though, I have to wait until Christmas Day!! :( At least by then I will be able to register it and be eligible for the free upgrade to V8 of the mapping software :)

Quest for £149 - Is that good?

Gents, a fascinating thread, but could any of you tell me how this unit compares in the big old confusing world of GPS - speak? :nenau Not least the enormous range of prices that I hear. The Home Secretary has just agreed to put a GPS in my Christmas stocking. It was 3 laps of Pamplona last month that did the trick! So I'm faced with knowing what it is I actually want - and realising that I have no bloody idea. I need all of Europe, cities etc. Do they all have an audio link? Are they updateable? Will they fit on my 1150GS? Will they also work in my car?
Simple questions I know, but I'm a simple man.
Any advice or reference to suitable website etc gratefully received. :thumb

If you do a search on "Quest" you will get plenty of hits! :)

Both the Quest and the 2610 are portable units, so they can be used on a bike or in a car. They should come with a car kit and all you would need for a bike is a mount and a power lead. Ram mounts seem to do the trick but Migsel makes some as do Motorrad Concepts.

The main advantage of a the 2610 is it uses CF memory cards for storing all the the detailed map data on. With a 2GB card, you can get the WHOLE of Europe on it. The Quest has a storage capacity of 243MB, so it won't store the whole of Europe. If you have a lap top, you can always take that with you for access to all the other Mapsource maps to load on to the trip.

The 2610 is around £500-550 pounds at the moment. There is a new model (the 2710) on its way so prices of those may drop in the near future. The Quest is down to £149 at PC World and Dixons too(though stocks are very limited). This is because a Quest 2 is on its way. It is supposed to have a capacity for 512mb of storage, but I am not 100% on that.

There have been plenty of threads on here on the 2610 v Quest, which should keep you busy if you do a search.

I recommend the Quest, as aside from the obvious price advantage (assuming you can find one) It is just SO portable, just fits in a shirt pocket, and if you're going to use it a lot on your bike, that's really important, as you'll be taking it off a lot. Also, despite the small screen, it is very easy to read, (even with my dodgy eyesight) and particularly with a Migsel speedo mount, is perfect for a GS.

Also, unless you're planning a Euan McGregor, it holds enough maps for most touring jaunts.

The Quest 2 has 2GB of memory and the full Europe map (version 8) preinstalled.

willstatt, you can buy either the 2610 or the Quest 2. Both will do the job. Go for the 2610 if you want a big screen, go for the Quest 2 if you want a more portable device.

Note - in some cars, with heat reflecting metal film in the windows, an external antenna is required for the GPS to work.

Version 8 of city select has not been released yet, so it will have version 7, but according to the Garmin website, Europe will be pre loaded. The price on the website is also in the region of £500 + VAT too!!

Dick,

Did I mention that I got a Quest for £150 at PC World the other day?? :D :D :D

£349  But thats 2.33 times more than I paid for mine. Why would you possibly spend that much on a Quest :eyebrow

Remember my mum doing that with a new jacket she bought me for Christmas that I wanted to wear to the school disco....Bless her !

I got one of the £199 Quests, and am so impressed with it, and I still thinks it was a bargain at that, so you guys have done really well, you won't be dissapointed with them !

GPS Warehouse are showing at £450 including VAT, with 512Mb of free memory space on top of the preloaded City Navigator Europe NT - looking good for me, as would have enough extra space for the states I'm sort of planning to visit in the US in a year or so. :thumb
