R100GS Fuel Consumption

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one... Has anyone take the time to work out the fuel consumption of their R100GS?
I just had a bit of a shock when I worked mine out, and I'm wondering if it's my bike or if they are all like that?

With TKC80 tyres and using it mostly for commuting I think I'm getting about 35-48 MPG from the Paris Dakar. The BMW rating was 57 MPG from the factory I think.

Any ideas, hints or tips?

The tyres won't help, but I'm guessing the lanes of Devon arn't the best place to ride if you want good fuel economy. Also any panniers fitted will have a dramatic effect

I get 45 to 50 mpg from my 17 year old GSPD
Check your carbs are in good order - balanced and that the choke closes off completely - try not to use the brakes as each time you do you have to burn fuel to get back to speed - ride smooth

Just to put 40 mpg on a 100gs in a comparison I get 64 mpg from a f800st and 45mpg from a 12gsa and a fjr1300 and a capponord pushing 48 mpg from a 12rt the last one I can remember is a trophy 1200 at 42 mpg. I dont ride for eceomny just getting there the best way I know how on a bike enjoying myself.JJH

Just done the Wee-Kend North Wales to Devon and back 41MPG
My 09 1200gs does 55-60MPG my Big Burger the same but the GSPD
gives me more's for me miles....

Just worked mine out for the Wee Kend run. 48.6 Mpg and that was a mix of 80-90 MPH motorways riding and country lanes. Pretty much fully loaded all the way.

I take it all the low MPG bikes are fitted with Y pieces?

45mpg no problem from my GS 1000 with Y piece

Non-standard motor so jets and needle clip set on the dyno for correct fuel-air ratio.

20 km / liter or 56 mpg out of the GS driving sensibly 10% less thrashing it .

When the MPG drops , and it does quite quickly, I know it is time for a tune, it seems very sensitive to carb balance and setting.

I actually get less MPG from my R75/7 and R80 G/S, go figure.

That's obviously because of how you rode it......I've had it for three years now and it has always returned about 45. It should get better now that the engine is sorted and the front bike freed upblast).

Also, rubbish blown into the airbox via the engine breather can build up and block the holes around the top of the jet. This causes rough running and poor consumption.
