Hello folks,
This bike is new to me so a few questions if you please.
It has a Remus exhaust with collector box, K&N filter and is running very well. Bike has just over 40K miles done.
Service just completed, first question after cleaning the filter with a proprietary oil cleaner, is the type of oil to spray on critical? I take that it does not need to be a K&N product? So, I'm wondering if a light machine oil sprayed on the outside would suffice? Saw a guy on Youtube use cooking spray.....
Second question, the date of manufacture is May 1999 so wondering also if the updated cam-chain tensioner would have been fitted at that time? It has no chain rattle.
Many thanks in advance, Séamus.

Seamus if you use 20W50 grade they don;t rattle, most people exp[erienced this as they changed to 10W40 and it only will rattle for a couple of seconds once running after being parked up a day or two, a 1mm Head inidicates the later tensioner

Personally I ditched the K&Ns on all of mine, they are a red herring the original flows more air than they can use!

But a light spray of something like WD or 3 in 1 spray usually suffices

Thats great to know, many thanks.
Always thought that the K&N's were the bees knees. First bike that came with one for me.
Would there have been a re-tune required when it was fitted with the Remus exhaust? I have a paper one to put in if no bother.
Cheers.

Must be a late one, on a 2000 registered bike
Is it Yellow & Silver ?

You've also used the magic word "running very well" so do only what needs doing... And the Remus with collector box was the best non standard set up I used on previous 11s👍

Aha …a Dakar limited edition then
That was my 11GS number 4... Bought off UKGSer FS and a very underrated colour scheme... It was a a Belgian import given away by the fact it didn't have heated grips...!🤣 After being in BM sales that was a dead give away...😁👍

Kalahari yellow and silver I was told? No mention of a limited edition. I heard that they were put together with the left overs after the 75th anniversary models of 1998?
The limited 'Granada/Dakar' edition was in Artic Silver over Dakar Yellow.
There were only 200 produced of which 37 were sold in the U.K.
This was mine, not sure where it is now.

Must be a very late bike as I have owned two R1150GS's that had a build date on the same day in May 1999 (114 and 138 off the production line) and were on T plates , both were so early that DVLA did not have the 1150 on their system so both were registered as an R1100GS on the DVLA system

My 1100 was registered 1st July 1999, it was £9,070 with panniers.

By the end of July the 1150 was in the showrooms, it was £750 cheaper than the 1100.
