R1100gs purchase

At that age your buying on condition mainly... It should be a plastic tank bike, has one or two of the usual points on mot history, was likely off the road for 15 years, had/ has very low miles so unlikely to show any issues with the earlier gearboxes... Your main things will be tyres, brake lines etc at that age. Servicing is very easy on 1100s...

PS That is mentally small mileage on the MOT history so unless your a collector don't look at paying too much...;)

Hi..many thanks for your replies. It has got a plastic tank... bubbling..but comes with a metal tank. It's done 60000 miles. It's had 3 owners from new. It's up for £1995. Spare standard exhaust.. luggage..and touratech parts

Interesting bike with lots of cosmetic mods but the MOT history re mileage is far from the same as a 60k miles bike...🙄
I'd stick with the plastic tank as they are slightly bigger and may bubble the paint but don't rust ... I like the standard 2CV exhaust sound and they run better overall...
Priced about the middle but totally about what you see and the vibe you get... 60k points towards M94 gearbox rebuild at some point if it's original but who knows...

There is huge gaps in the MOT history. There is only 8 Mots on the gov web site. Where has it been? It's only had 3 owners

https://charterhouse-bikes.com/product/2003-bmw-r1150-gs This one is up for auction next month? I know it's an 1150 but similar price bracket

Clocks were changed in its past...

I would carry out a check on the engine number. The cylinder heads look like the later 1150 twin spark covers.
Unless the modifications are new heads.
I would delve a bit more into it's history, hopefully it's legitimate, but something just doesn't add up. Apologies if I'm wrong.

head covers are of a r1200c custom, forks look to be from an R1150gs twin spark

Chrome cylinder heads for r1100gs for sale on eBay. Not a fan of them

It's one of those ones where you have to see it in the flesh and decide... BUT 😆 for £2k it's not a massive gamble...👍 I expect it's been owned by a OCD add on merchant but even if it needed a new front end previously I bet it's be fine... I've had a cat N 11GS like that and it was a grand bike...

Just had a close look at the photos and as an 11GS saddo I'd buy it ...😆 The extras alone in their day would have been the asking price... I'm definitely hedging with the OCD add on owner...

Before I bought my first 1150 I looked at a couple of 1100's with a view to doing a fork swap and light swap to make a 1150 lookalike , so possibly just a osmetic update
