Hi, need some advice on fitting a new front crankshaft oil seal after mine developed a heavy leak. The new seal is different to the old one I took out and has a flexible lip that has to be formed to fit over the crankshaft. Questions are these:
1.which way should the lip be formed? I am thinking facing inwards towards the back of the bike to keep the oil away from the seal but this makes it a bit of a bugger to fit. It's very stiff.
2.i have the front engine cover off and I've fitted the seal but would I be better off fitting the seal after I've replaced the engine cover?
Thanks

Should have asked before buying and I'd have said don't worry about the diaphragm type seal and just get an ordinary double lip seal

As to the one you have you have to form it over something a similar diameter to the crank end

N.B. be careful when fitting as it's very easy to catch the notch for the timing disc location and tear the inner edge
The funnel shape should be into the engine rather than out
