R1150GS Back on the road!

My bike as been in storage for almost 3 years, although it was serviced by BMW approx 18 months ago. I recharged the battery and started it up today. I let it idle for approx 10/12 mins when I noticed the the Catalytic Converter began to glow red hot. I switched it off let it call down and wheeled it back into the garage. Any ideas before I send it off to the local garage for a look. Thanks

A five minute spin up the road would have been a better idea. Long idling just makes it overheat. Shouldn't have done any harm though.

Remember it's AIR-cooled, which means you need to be riding it in order for it to operate correctly.

Many thanks for the info. I had an inkling that may have been the reason. It hadn't been started for so long it struggled to tick over initially hence the long idol. I'll take it out tomorrow. I've not really had my "biker" head back on very long!
