Used to work but not anymore I replaced the two lower throttle body cables recently by the way but the choke was working afterwards. When I pull the choke lever I feel the normal resistence on the lever but it is not doing anything down below. Tell me I don't have to take out that flocking cable cartridge again under the tank to resolve this please.

Use the throttle instead to raise the revs... fix the 'choke' next time you're 'in the area'.

FWIW i cannot remember the last time - if ever, I used the 'choke'. I simply start the engine and ride away with no issues.

I don't think it a "choke" as such, as in it doesn't enrich the mixture. I think it just opens the throttle slightly for start up which I think you cold do anyway with a slight opening on the twist grip when starting.

Someone will confirm if I'm correct or talking bollox I'm sure....:D

BMW missed a trick by not using speech marks.

Yes you are correct but it's a pain in the arse in this weather. I have to hold the throttle open for a few minutes before it will idle on its own.

Try adjusting the cable.
The adjuster is underneth the "choke" lever where the cable exits the handcontrols. Pull the rubber cover back and you'll see it. Sometimes it's seized due to water trapped inside the rubber cover.

Tried that already. No joy I'm afraid.

Incidentally, what action on the black outer cable increases the choke affect, pushing it further back from the choke or bringing it nearer. I assume If things were working correctly I should see a slight movement in the throttle body pulleys ?

Correct, it's just a fast tickover lever to compensate for thick cold oil. When you re-assembled the throttle synch assembly in the tray how long did the fast tickover work for? Could it be that the cable wasn't seated correctly and has fallen out?

Which presumably the reason for the quote marks in the OP:thumb

Maybe you have too much freeplay at the throttle cables? The extra slack isn't taken up by the choke then, so it has no effect!

My first thought but he appears to have ruled that out in the first post.

Had the same problem. Fixed it by RTFM and following the order of adjustments.

Correct as never used choke and ride all seasons. Throttle control is fine.
